Golfing opportunities Explorer golf tourney The inaugural Riverside Sheriff Explorer Golf Tournament, hosted by the Riverside County Sheriff Explorer Program will be held on March 24 at the Links at Summerly. One-third of the post is from Canyon Lake and the tournament proceeds will contribute to the Explorers Annual Condensed Sheriff Academy. The coed program for ages 14 to 20 gives youths a taste of law enforcement. Registration for the four-person scramble format starts at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. The event will include mulligans, birdie package and team awards. Dinner, awards and drawings will begin immediately after the tournament. The cost is $100 for a single, $380 for a foursome, $100 for hole sponsorship and $30 for dinner only. Niners Golf Club Canyon Lake women are invited to “Leprechaun Day” with the Niners Golf Club, playing nine holes only, on Thursday, March 18. Participants may pick their own foursomes or come as a guest. Arrive by 9:15 a.m. for a 10 a.m. tee time. Green fees are not included. 'Spring Kick-Off' A Homeowners Four Man Scramble will be held on March 28 as a part of the Men’s Golf Club “Spring Kick-Off” tournament, which begins March 27. The tournament is open to all members and all Canyon Lake homeowners and their guests. The Homeowners Scramble allows beginners, infrequent golfers and working couples the opportunity to play organized golf. The tee times will be assigned for Sunday, beginning at 7 a.m. The entry fee is $35 per person and includes brunch on Sunday at the Country Club following the tournament, plus prizes. Golf green and cart fees are not included. A sign-up sheet is posted outside the Pro Shop. Make checks payable to CLMC and drop into the Men’s Tournament box. JWC Charity Golf Tourney The Canyon Lake Jr. Women’s Club (JWC) will host its inagural Charity Golf Tournament on March 27 at the Canyon Lake Golf Course. The cost is $100 per person ($60 for annual members). Registration will begin at 11 a.m., followed by a putting contest and a shotgun start at 1 p.m. The event will end with a banquet dinner, drawings and live auction. According to Chairperson Krissy Cissell, some of the fun things planned are a chance to win a golf cart with a hole-in-one contest, a longest drive contest, closest-to-the-pin and prizes, which will include tickets to the U.S. Open, a box suite to a Storm baseball game, golf packages, family entertainment packages and more. One of the goals JWC hopes to accomplish through the tournament and other events is to raise money to help support new playground equipment at Indian Beach, as well as raising money for the high school scholarship program. Baseball fundraiser tourney The Temescal Canyon High School Baseball Boosters are holding a fundraiser golf tournament at the Canyon Lake Golf Course on March 20. Registration and late sign-ups will begin at 11 a.m. followed by a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. Following the tournament, a barbecue chicken and tri-tip dinner will be served. The cost is $100 and includes a 50/50 pre-golf putting contest, player goody bags, a shot at a hole-in-one golf cart, closest-to-the-pin prizes for men and women, longest and straightest drives and prizes for the first and last place teams. Drawings and an auction also will be held. Lions Pro/Am Tourney After 19 years of tournaments and in an effort to interest more golfers, the Lions Club is changing its format for the annual tournament on April 29. Men or women players, and amateurs with an established handicap, may register to play in a two-best-ball tournament format with a local professional golfer on each team. Golfers without a handicap will participate in the usual golf scramble format. Lion Golf Chairman Tom Pierick and Golf Pro Dave Lindeman are in charge of organizing the tournament. For reservations and registration, which are limited, contact Dave or his staff at the Canyon Lake Pro Shop. More details will be provided closer to the event. Family Golf Club Family Golf Club members, if signed up and paid by March 31, can receive four half-hour private golf lessons for $100, which will be good through 2010. For more details see Dave Lindeman in the Pro Shop. The Family Golf Club holds open meetings the third Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. in the Magnolia Room at the Country Club. Cops for Kids Tourney The 6th annual Golf Tournament to benefit Cops for Kids will be held on Friday, May 14, at the Links at Summerly. The tournament will have an 8 a.m. shotgun start. The cost is $115 for individuals or $400 for foursomes that sign-up by May 1. Women's Golf Club The CLWGC meets regularly on Tuesdays to play 18 holes of golf.
