Businesses of the Year
Two businesses were selected as the 2009 Businesses of the Year.
     • AutoCare USA is known for the professional and courteous service of Proprietor Paul Chennette, whose customers routinely laud the superior service they receive in their dealings with Paul and his company. Paul spends much of his time in service to the community, including organizing the Ray Chennette golf tournament each year to benefit Canyon Lake’s Jr. Golf Clinic.
     • Pac West Financial, led by owner Mike Irvin, is well known for exploring myriad financial options on behalf of his clients. Chamber leaders say Mike is never too busy to lend a hand on projects enhancing the community’s image by facilitating activities in the Towne Center. “He is well known for conducting his business activities with honesty and integrity and his support of the Chamber of Commerce goes well beyond the call of duty,” they say.

Organization of the Year
The non-profit organization, Mommy and Me, see article in this issue.

Volunteers of the Year
     • Daryl Schwarz has been active in the community for years. She has been secretary and social chairman for the Travel Club and has been trail boss for the Roadrunners Club. She is a dedicated volunteer for the Cotillion and leads a free Dancercise class at the Senior Center. Her quiet dedication is the essence of volunteering, according to Chamber leaders.
     • Al Van Beenan is a longtime volunteer in Canyon Lake whose service continues to enhance the community, according to Chamber leaders. He is the perennial Santa Claus at the Chamber’s Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, the Ski Club’s Breakfast with Santa and other local clubs. Al also has been an active and beloved leader in the Ski Club for many years and a longtime member of Canyon Lake Community Church. He also works in the production department at The Friday Flyer.

Youth of the Year
     • Melody Le Baron carries a 4.17 grade point average at Elsinore High School. She has been in the top 25 in the National Honors Society for four year and is in California Scholastic Foundation. Melody has achieved the Most Valuable Player in tennis and is a varsity basketball player at her school.
     • Erik Larson, a student at Temescal High School, is a senior representative in the Associated Student Body. He was Student of the Month this past October. Erik competed in the honor division of the Riverside County Academic Decathlon. He qualified for the AWSA National Water Ski Championship in Florida as well the USTA Team Tennis Sectionals in Palm Desert.

Citizens of the Year
     • Margie Zingg-Donaldson is a member of an impressive list of community clubs and organizations: the Woman's Club, Twirlers, Home Owners Club, Women's Connection, Chamber of Commerce, Travel Club and more. She is a Lady Elk with the Elks Club and has a 2nd degree black belt in Taekwondo. She has a pilot's license for small aircraft and once water-skied from Long Beach to Catalina Island. She is a tireless supporter of Canyon Lake, along with being the mother of four children, 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
