Golf operations contract will go to bid
What’s in a contract? This normally yawn-provoking subject has become a hotbed topic in recent weeks as the Property Owners Association Board of Directors has had to consider whether to put Golf Pro Dave Lindeman’s contract with the POA out for bid. At Tuesday’s Board meeting, Directors voted to do just that in the presence of a small army of Dave supporters with signs that read “Keep Dave.”
Canyon Laker gets the golden ticket on 'Idol'
Tori Kelly, 16, impressed “American Idol” judges at the Denver auditions and received the “golden ticket” through to the next round of competition after singing John Mayer’s “Gravity.” Her audition was featured on Tuesday’s Fox Network American Idol show.
Chamber Notes: Business of the Year Walk of Fame unveiled
On Saturday, January 30, after years of planning and overcoming many obstacles, the Chamber of Commerce held a dedication ceremony and unveiled its Marty Gibson/Business of the Year Walk of Fame. The ceremony was attended by most of the past recipients of the Business of the Year Award, as well as County Supervisor Jeff Stone and Canyon Lake Mayor Nancy Horton, along with well over 150 guests.

At its January meeting, the Riverside County Division of the League of California Cities elected Canyon Lake Council member and former Mayor Mary Craton to a two-year term on the League State Board.

Temescal Canyon High School Principal Errol Garnett recently announced a new Tutoring Club at the school. Garnett says he has seen many club requests cross his desk for existing programs like National Honor Society, or requests for programs of particular student interest like the Anime Club.

Cook's Corner: Cooking for two without an army of leftovers
Standing in line at the grocery store last week, I inadvertently became privy to a conversation between a fellow customer and the cashier. The woman in front of me was bemoaning the lack of dinner ideas for her and her husband. “It’s just the two of us anymore and we always end up with too many leftovers,” she said, exasperated at the thought of food no one wants to eat taking up real estate in her refrigerator.

I am writing in regards to the re-bid of the Golf Pro Dave Lindeman’s current contract. My family moved to Canyon Lake in 1982 when I was 8. I grew up at the Country Club and, in 27 years, have only seen two head golf professionals in that time.

There is a small group of people in Canyon Lake that are unhappy with the operation of the Golf Course and want to see this job go out for bid. Unfortunately one of the people in this group was elected as president of the Men’s Golf Club and this drove a wedge in the golfing community, causing a lot of us to not to join their club – they will lose many more next year.

On February 2, I attended the POA Board meeting along with over 100 other Canyon Lakers armed with a petition. With more than 300 signatures, and more to come from outside the golf community, we attended this meeting in support of our Golf Pro Dave Lindeman.
Letter: Meeting a disgrace
Tuesday’s Board meeting was an epitome of disgrace when POA Board President Randy Bonner scolded the audience like children for clapping upon agreeing with guest speakers. Residents packed the main room, overflow room and parking lot in efforts to express their desires not to have Dave Lindeman’s position put out for bid.
Announcement: Lathrop-Simon engagement
Leah Lathrop, daughter of Larry and Wendy Lathrop, and Eric Simon, son of Dale Simon and Brenda Simon-Banaag, have announced their engagement. They will be “tying the knot” on June 26, 2010 at the Sand and Surf Resort in Laguna Beach.
In Memoriam: Robert Dunn
Robert Carter “Bob” Dunn was born on June 15, 1924 in DuQuoin, Illinois, and passed away on January 26, 2010. He leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Zelda, a son, Steve, and a daughter, Linda.

The Inland Empire Chapter of Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge recently obtained two Cao Yong prints from the artists noted Grand American Series, “Freedom” and “We the People.” The group has planned two opportunity drawings.

This week’s pets are Katy and Lion. Katy is a tan 1-year-old Chihuahua female. Lion is a 5-yer-old orange tabby domestic medium-haired male that is already neutered.

Recap of the February Board meeting
Directors in attendance at Tuesday night’s Board meeting were President Randy Bonner, Vice-President Michelle Gordon, Secretary David Johnston and Director Guy Kestell. Treasurer Steve Salazar was out of town on business but joined the meeting about halfway through to cast his vote by phone.
