YMCA celebrates young graduates

The YMCA hosted a water day and potluck luau on Tuesday at Blue Bird Hall with special recognition for the pre-schoolers who are graduating to kindergarten, some of whom are pictured here. Now that school is out, older siblings are invited to come along and help with their baby brothers and sisters. In fact, says Activities Coordinator Renee Smith, the older kids are reading during story time and helping out with the crafts. “The younger ones really are quiet and still when the older ones come and read to them,” she says. The YMCA program is available to parents and grandparents of pre-schoolers who would like to spend time with their young children, encouraging their creativity through crafts and their social skills through games, music and playtime with other tots. Families can purchase a $20 punch card at the POA Member Services desk allowing each child 10 visits to the YMCA. The program is led by Site Director Celia Sawyer, who can be reached at 275-6044.
