Conner , Cassie and Bear This week’s pets include Conner, a friendly 2-year-old white and tan neutered male beagle/husky mix, and Cassie, a cute 10-week-old gray and white female domestic shorthair. Cassie is just one of many cats and kittens available at the shelter right now, according to staff. Also available is Bear, an adorable brown male chihuahua mix who Shea Johnston says is a sweet inside and outside dog that is good with people and riding in a car and loves to be groomed. To adopt any of these pets, contact Animal Friends of the Valleys at 674-0618 and ask for intake number 73521 for Conner , 23919 for Cassie. or 39874 for Bear. In addition to its regular shelter hours, AFV also operates satellite adoption sites every Saturday at the Lake Elsinore Petsmart and Temecula Petco from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., as well as the Murrieta Farmers’ Market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. All animals currently available for adoption can be seen on the shelter’s website, www.animalfriendsofthevalleys.com. AFV serves the communities of Canyon Lake, Lake Elsinore, Murrieta and Temecula, offering animals for adoption as well as providing animal control services to those cities. The shelter is located at 29001 Bastron St. in Lake Elsinore and is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. AFV always welcomes donations of bagged dog and cat food, blankets, towels and other pet supplies as well as those wishing to volunteer their time. Pet foster care needed Family pets have become unintended victims of the housing crisis, according to Animal Friends of the Valleys Director Willa Bagwell, who says families faced with the loss of their home or needing to downsize because of loss of employment or other reasons tied to the current economy, are bringing their pets to the shelter in Lake Elsinore. Residents can help save animals that would otherwise run out of time and be put down by providing temporary housing. Those interested may contact the AFV administration office at 471-8344. Information regarding the foster program, including an application and guidelines, can be found at www.animalfriendsofthevalleys.com. |
