Letter: Eastport upgrades

     Editor, The Friday Flyer:
We all care about our Canyon Lake amenities, including the Eastport Park and launch ramp.
After looking at the landscaping plan, published in the June 12 The Friday Flyer, it seems like more attention would have been given to making the area beautiful and pleasant to look at. Considering the amount of money being spent, we would expect the plants selected would shield the view of the parking lot, Goetz Rd. traffic and also minimize road dirt.
I was told the palms on the seawall side will be about 30 feet apart. The trunks of these fairly mature palms won’t hide much at the parking lot level. The seawall side will be cars, trailers, traffic and open to the public view from Goetz Rd. Perhaps, shorter, less expensive palms or plants could be used on the seawall side, instead of so many plants on the berm? Something to provide significant screening.
This upgrade to Eastport Park and launch ramp is a permanent remodel. The end result should enhance and beautify one of our valuable parks. If we are spending the money, it should be a gem, not just an eyesore parking lot and road traffic.
I’m sure that owner input would have provided the vision of what we want and could certainly have kept costs in check. Please join with others and provide your input now. Work has already begun, but it is never too late. We all look at our parks! Contact Paul Johnson 244-6841 or e-mail pjohnson@canyonlakepoa.com.
