Letter: Ski rules

     Editor, The Friday Flyer:
It’s nice to post rules; its quite another to enforce them. Most Marine Patrol officers issue no citations other than expired Canyon Lake decals. The rule that pertains to no wake-enhancing devices is a joke. Every wake boat we see on the dock floats or trailers have wake-enhancing devices of some type. Most newer boats have water ballasts, which is the perfect way to transport quagga/zebra mussels to Canyon Lake. We have never seen a citation issued or this rule enforced.
I would think someone with a dock that has been damaged by the wakes of these boats would have a serious issue with the POA. I know two people who have been thrown from their boat by a wake boat passing close to them. Float tubes are another example of not enforcing Lake rules. We see outsiders continually fishing Canyon Lake in float tubes. The dues we pay is for the private use of our Lake, Golf Course and other amenities. Rules that pertain to water sports are mostly safety issues, but not all of them; so let’s enforce all of the rules.
