Next Council meeting The Canyon Lake City Council will hold an adjourned regular meeting next Thursday, July 9 at 3 p.m. in the Municipal Services (POA) Boardroom for the purpose of further consideration of the redevelopment plan, including various resolutions certifying the final EIR, finding that the provision of low- and moderate income housing outside the project area will be of benefit to the project area and responding to any written objections to the proposed redevelopment plan. Meetings are televised live on Time Warner Cable Channel 29; Verizon FiOS customers can watch the meetings on Channel 39. In addition, Council meetings are streamed live on the Internet at www.cityofcanyonlake.com, where archived video of previous meetings can also be found. Councilmember office hours Mayor Pro Tem Nancy Horton and Councilmember Marty Gibson are now holding regular office hours at City Hall, and residents are invited to stop in to discuss topics of importance to them, ask questions or request information. Nancy holds office hours on the second Wednesday of each month from 4 to 6 p.m., with the next time set for Wednesday, July 8. Marty is available every other Tuesday beginning at 2 p.m., with the next time scheduled for Tuesday, July 14. Appointments are not necessary but are encouraged, as drop-ins may need to wait if they are already with someone or have a scheduled appointment. Library activites July is going to be a busy month at the Library, with a variety of family programs and events planned beginning with a family craft event, “Let’s Make Masks,” next Friday, July 10, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. On Saturday, July 11, a First Five program for children up to 5-years old, “Taking Care of Your Teeth,” will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; a Spanish-speaker will also be on hand. “High School Musical 3” will be shown on Monday, July 13, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. and on Wednesday, July 15, a “Theater Arts for Children” program with an Aloha Hawaii theme will be held. Lastly, “Cartooning with Darlene,” a family program for children 5 years and older will be presented on Wednesday, July 22, from 4 to 6 p.m. The Library’s family programs and story times are sponsored by the Friends of the Library and are chosen based on their ability to entertain and educate. New Friends are always welcome; applications to join the Friends of the Library are available at the front counter. Library hours are Monday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for more information about the Library’s programs or the Friends of the Library, please call 244-1981. Veterans Day Planning Committee The City has formed a Veterans Day Planning Committee to honor veterans and active duty military in November. Residents who would be interested in serving on the committee are invited to the next meeting on Wednesday, July 15, at 2 p.m. at City Hall. Free compost workshops The Riverside County Waste Management Department Master Composters will be holding a Backyard Composting workshop next Saturday, July 11, at 10 a.m. at the Mission Trail Library, 34303 Mission Trail in Wildomar. Additional classes will be offered Saturday, July 25, at Grace Mellman Community Library, 41000 County Center Dr. in Temecula, and Saturday, August 8 at the Perris Public Library, 163 E. San Jacinto Ave. All classes begin at 10 a.m. The free workshops will teach residents how to recycle fruit and vegetable waste along with yard trimmings into a soil conditioner that enriches gardens, lawns and houseplants.
