Letter: Failure of fence proposition

     Editor, The Friday Flyer:
The lack of votes causing the failure of the CC&R change of the 5-ft. to 6-ft. fence height appears to me that Canyon Lake homeowners tacitly approve of “peeping Toms.” This 5-ft. fence limit rule clearly is to allow POA, snooping neighbors and perverts to spy on anyone they choose. Not only easier to spy, but the 5-ft. rule makes the fence easier to scale by those who may wish to do harm as well as large dogs.
This is of particular interest to me as my 8-year-old granddaughter’s bedroom is next to a soon-to-be-5-ft. fence. The fact is that 80 percent of the homeowners that care about the welfare of our children did vote for the 6-ft. fence! Perhaps this Canyon Lake community is not as nice as it claims to be. The notion of a 5-ft. fence was conceived at a time when we could safely leave our doors unlocked. Times have changed!
This 5-ft. fence rule is counter to the California Constitution, which declares in Article 1 Declaration of Rights, Section 1, “All people are by nature free and independent and have inalienable rights. Among these are enjoying and defending life and liberty, acquiring, possessing and protecting property, and pursuing and obtaining safety, happiness and privacy.”
