Tennis Club Congratulations to the winners of the Canyon Lake Tennis Club’s Fiesta Doubles Round Robin held Saturday, April 18. The winning team included, from left, Dave Plasch, Peggy Basubas, Jenny Elliot, Pam Riley, Jordan Aguilar and Mike Elliot. The club’s next event is the club’s Member/Guest tournament on Saturday, June 13, at 9 a.m. Deadline to sign up is Wednesday, June 10. If interested, contact Devlin Fillmore at 660-9214. Jr. Women’s Club The Junior Women’s Club is looking for high school volunteers to help in their booth at Fiesta Days. Motorcycle Club Members of the Motorcycle Club will be participating in the annual Fundraising Festival Custom Car and Motorcycle Show at Storm Stadium this Sunday, May 17, to benefit the Canyon Lake Middle School PTSA. Contact Ed Brooks at 244-2168 for more information about volunteering to staff the booth. The club will participate in Fiesta Day activities on May 23 and will sell Monster drinks. Members are needed for the parade participation and to work the booth. The club will also participate in the City of Canyon Lake Adopt-a-Road program. City Manager Lori Moss is working out the details of the club’s involvement in keeping Railroad Canyon Rd. clean and attractive. The membership drive continues; applications may be obtained at www.canyonlakemotorcycleclub.com. Travel Club “Viva Las Vegas Night” on June 5 at the Lodge will be a casino night for fun, not fundraising. The evening will include eating, gambling, dancing and prizes. Cost is $30 for members and $35 for guests. The Newport Parade of Lights Cruise with dinner at the Five Crowns is on December 18. Cost is $90. The meal choice is prime rib, chicken Waldorf or salmon and should be specified at sign-up. Reservations for the trip to “Dirty Dancing” on June 25 have been closed; however, a waiting list is being compiled. For more information, contact Lou DeYoung at 244-7100. Two multi-day trips are now open to all. They are Waves to Vines, August 2 to 5, $680 members and $685 guests; and Albuquerque Balloon Festival, October 6 to 13, $939 members and $944 guests. The Costa Rica trip, November 11 to 19, is open to members. The cost is $2,249 double and $2,749 single. The land-only cost is $1,249 double and $1,749 single. Photography Club The first photography field trip will be to Julian tomorrow, May 16. Photos from the outing will be shown and discussed at the June 11 meeting. Photography Club meetings are held the second Thursday of each month and all residents are invited to attend and become members. Woman’s Club The next Woman’s Club meeting will be held Wednesday, May 20, at 10 a.m. at the Lodge. The club will host an appreciation luncheon to committee chairs and those who have assisted them throughout the year in the many projects that have helped the Canyon Lake Community. The Woman’s Club is a non-profit, non-partisan, philanthropic organization dedicated to the enrichment of the community and helping others less fortunate. Campground Club The Campground Club is looking to fill a few positions within the club. President Alex Cook invites motivated and energetic people to become board members and help with events and donations. The next event is planned for tomorrow, May 16. Art Association The Art Association meets in the City Multi-purpose Room on the first Thursday of every month from 7 to 9 p.m.; meetings are open to all residents. There is a “Monday Night Painters” workshop at Blue Bird Hall every Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. Artists of all types and media are encouraged to work on their own artwork during this time. Roadrunners Another great year of RVing is underway, according to Gene Ebel who says upcoming trips include Chula Vista, California, Tombstone, Arizona, and Pismo Beach, California. Yacht Club The Yacht Club invites all Canyon Lake residents to the monthly meetings held on the fourth Thursday of the month. Boat ownership is not a criterion for membership. Twirlers The Twirlers Square Dance Club’s Phase One class is held every Wednesday from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Phase Two classes are held from 8:15 to 9:30 p.m. and teach the higher level calls to prepare the dancers to attend all club level dances on the second Sunday of each month as well as dances sponsored by other clubs. Round dance classes are offered on Mondays from 12 to 2 p.m.; advanced classes from 2 to 4 p.m. A beginner line dance class is held Tuesdays from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the City Multi-purpose Room, led by Diana Gallagher; all ages are welcome. Lioness The Lioness Club will meet for dinner Thursday, May 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the Lodge. Following the business meeting conducted by President Ruby Letham, guest speaker Elaine Dodd, a makeup artist specializing in mature skin, will discuss and demonstrate products and treatments for the mature skin. Ten Canyon Lake members will attend the District Lions/Lioness Convention at River Palms in Laughlin. During the convention Opal Parmer will be presented a Proud Lioness Award, which she has earned by her attendance and activities during her first year of membership. As part of their service to the world community members collect aluminum can pull tabs for Ronald McDonald House, eye glasses for needy people in the US and Mexico, cancelled postage stamps for veteran’s hospital projects, computer cartridges, cell phones and hearing aids for recycling, box tops and Campbell soup labels. Lioness members work throughout the year to meet the needs of families in the community, as well as throughout the nation and world, with special emphasis on services to those who have impaired eyesight.
