In Memoriam: Robert Horton

Robert B. Horton, 77, passed away at Menifee Valley Hospital on November 13, 2009, where he had been hospitalized. His wife was by his side. He was born in Fresno, California, on April 3, 1932 and has resided in Canyon Lake for the last 16 years.
Bob was a man of many talents. In his youth, he lived in Maui, Hawaii, where he enjoyed a career as a real estate broker and partner in a French restaurant. Upon returning to the mainland, he enjoyed a career in construction and was a gifted pool designer and builder. His hobbies over the years included oil painting, sailing, traveling, golfing and playing poker with his many friends in the area. Bob will also be remembered for his lifelong joy of cooking for family and friends. In addition, he was a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous for more than 14 years. Family members say Bob was a larger-than-life individual who demonstrated a generosity of spirit and a love of life that will be missed by all.
According to his friends, Bob was not demonstrative about his faith but his life was a living example of the Golden Rule, doing for others what he would like others to do for him. His life was marked by generosity; he had a positive impact on many lives and will be remembered for thinking of others’ needs and trying to make them happy.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; sons, Larry Horton of Anaheim and Randy Horton of Temecula; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He also leaves a stepson, James McDonald of Redondo Beach, and stepdaughter, Jill Watler of Norco, along with four step-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be held on December 1 at the Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside. Please call the Cremation Society of Riverside County, 1-800-922-7773, for the time of the service.
