Council rejects ordinances in first meeting of the year The new year got off to a busy start for the Canyon Lake City Council Wednesday as members were brought up to date on the City’s redevelopment plans and discussed a number of hot-button items. One of those items, a 45-day moratorium on the granting of permits for development along ridgelines in the community, did not achieve the required 4/5 vote after Marty Gibson recused himself and Councilmember Jordan Ehrenkraz voted against it. The moratorium was for the purpose of giving City staff time to study the possibility of a permanent ridgeline preservation ordinance. Council also voted against adopting an ordinance that would have required the owners of abandoned and foreclosed residential properties to register them with the City, but did vote to revisit the item in three months. The ordinance would place a strain on City staff to enforce and would only provide minimal cost recovery, according to City Manager Lori Moss and Special Enforcement Officer Bob Bohan. Residents will be able to read more about the January Council meeting in next week’s issue of The Friday Flyer. |
