Canyon Lake Lioness Club members recently packed 19 boxes of snacks, socks, personal supplies, books, games, batteries, caps, towelettes, energy bars, candy, toothbrushes and toothpaste. The boxes were sent to Mark Smith, grandson of Ann Lombardo, and Thomas Cahill; both are serving in Afghanistan. Club members provided the shipping charges and most of the items sent. The club would like to thank those non-members who made monetary donations and dentists Cheryl Johnson and Derek Hauser for donating the toothbrushes and toothpaste. Lioness members pictured from left are Opal Parmer, President Ruby Letham, LaRue McNamara, Sharon Ormond, Marian Trout, Joyce Dettling, Kay Van Rooy, Mickie Cullen and Marj Wicen.

Cotillion
Cotillion’s annual ’40s and ’50s Dance will be held tonight, September 5. The recommended attire for girls is poodle skirts, bobby sox and ponytails. For the boys, facilitator Ed Strong suggests Levis, T-shirts with V-neck sweaters or long sleeve dress shirts (tucked in) and a “duck tail” hairstyle. There will be a lot of swing dancing so participants should wear appropriate shoes.
The annual Dance Contest will be held October 3; everyone is encouraged to line up his or her partner. Parents should obtain the phone numbers of their child’s partner to avoid problems. Everyone is expected to participate, even new students, according to Ed, who says a practice session will be held downstairs at the Lodge on the Wednesday prior to the event. The November session will be about table manners in preparation for the December 12 semi-formal dinner dance. For more information, call Ed at 244-4500.
