She had grown up in the San Fernando Valley and attended the University of Southern California. Having achieved a Sociology degree, Jessie was an officer of First Interstate Bank for more than two decades. Shortly after the World War II, she married Robert Shoemaker, a tool and die maker. In the Valley they raised three sons: Bert, USAF/Retired and now a schoolteacher; James, who builds sets for the movie and television industry; and Michael, a carpenter. Following Robert’s death in 1980, Jessie migrated inland to Canyon Lake in 1981. Here she volunteered with the Heart Fund and the Cancer Society before committing nearly 20 years to “the Wednesday volunteer ladies in peach” at Menifee Valley Hospital. She was among the charter members of the Canyon Lake chapter of the National Panhellenic Alumnae Conference (at USC, a member of Kappa Delta sorority) and enjoyed ceramics and reading. |
