Dinner concert
     Garden Path Ministries will host “Celebrating Freedom,” a fundraising dinner concert featuring the Celebrate Recovery Band, this Sunday, September 28, at 5 p.m. The event will be held at Cornerstone Community Church, 24570 Monte Vista Rd. in Wildomar. The cost is $25 for adults and $15 for children. According to organizers, part of the event cost ($15) is tax-deductible. It will include food by Filippi’s, testimonies, drawings and special guest Henry Alvarez, the founder/director of “Enlightened by Christ Ministries,” who will share about his life after parole. Proceeds will provide “Life Recovery” Bibles and “Free On the Inside” Bibles for inmates. For reservations or to host a table, call 244-6132.

MOPS
     The MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group at Canyon Lake Community Church meets on the first and third Tuesday of the month. The group is for mothers of children newborn to kindergarten. Expectant mothers are welcomed. MOPS offers childcare and has speakers, breakfast and creative activities for moms. The cost is $40 per trimester. Moms in touch
     Moms and grandmothers of middle schoolers are invited to join Moms In Touch International, which meets in Canyon Lake on Mondays at 9 a.m. “Come experience how you can replace anxiety and fear with peace and hope by praying with other moms,” says organizer Sherry Bajadek. The group will be praying for CLMS and its students. Walk 4 Life
     The Elsinore Valley Pregnancy Resource Center will celebrate life with its annual “Walk 4 Life” on October 4, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Machado Park in Lake Elsinore. Registration begins at 9:15 a.m. The public display of support for all life, from conception to natural death, will include music, an inspirational message from Pastor Bryan Johnston of Tides Church, refreshments, balloons, clowns and an opportunity drawing for gift baskets. Landscape Workshop
     The Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District will hold a landscape workshop for homeowners on Saturday, October 25, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The workshop will include alternatives to thirsty turf, irrigation systems, good plants for slopes and information on plants that save time, money and water. Senior bowlers wanted
     Residents interested in bowling on a senior league on Mondays at 1 p.m. are invited to join other seniors at the Trevi Bowling Center. “We have a lot of fun and it is a great way to spend an afternoon. There are other people from Canyon Lake, so you will probably be with people you know,” says Rolly Bitterman. Teams consist of four bowlers. For more information contact, Rolly at 244-4674.

Cornerstone sports activities
     Cornerstone Community Church invites residents to join in the following evening community sports activities: indoor soccer on Mondays from 7 to 9 p.m.; men’s basketball on Wednesdays from 7 to 10 p.m.; co-ed dodgeball on Thursdays from 7:30 to 10 p.m.; and co-ed volleyball on Fridays from 7 to 10 p.m. All activities will be played at Cornerstone Community Church, 34570 Monte Vista Dr. in Wildomar. Blessing the animals
     Shepherd of Life Lutheran Church will celebrate “The Blessing of the Animals” on October 4 at 10 a.m. on the commemoration day of St. Francis of Assisi. All well-behaved animals with restraints or in crates are invited to attend, including those with hooves, feathers, horns or scales. A photo may be brought if the pet is unsociable. Pet microchips will be available for $15 per unit. Donations of pet supplies for the local animal shelter will also be accepted. Shepherd of Life is located at 30400 Grand Ave. in Lake Elsinore.

Trauma Intervention training
     Trauma Intervention Programs Inc. (TIP), a 501,C, (3) non-profit organization, is looking for men, women and teens to be part of a unique team of citizen volunteers trained to provide emotional first aid and practical support to victims of traumatic events. No experience is necessary. TIP volunteers are called to emergency scenes by police, firefighters and hospital ER personnel in Canyon Lake, Hemet, Lake Elsinore, Menifee, Murrieta, Perris, Sun City, Temecula, Wildomar and surrounding areas.
     An orientation and training class is scheduled for Wednesday, October 15, from 6 to 9 p.m. The course consists of four additional weeknights from 6 to 9 p.m. and one and one-half weekends, with graduation taking place Saturday, October 25, at 6 p.m. For more information or to enroll, call John Beaumont at 698-5976 or 440-3227.

High Holiday services
     Temple Beth Sholom’s High Holiday services will be led by Cantor Jeff Schwimmer on September 30 and October 1, 8 and 9. Soldiers’ names needed
     “The Ladies of the Lake” want to provide care packages for soldiers. They are in need of names of military personnel serving overseas who are related to Canyon Lake residents and who would appreciate receiving a care package.
     In addition to sending packages to the soldiers, they also support the Sun City Convalescent Hospital by providing large Velcro bibs, wheel chair covers, afghans, lap robes and other types of supplies.

Constitution quiz
     The Menifee Valley Masonic Lodge #289 will host its 13th annual Constitution Quiz on October 15 at 6:30 p.m. at 27221 McCall Blvd. in Sun City. Local high schools will be competing for the first place medals based on their knowledge of the United States Constitution, Bill of Rights and Amendments. High schools expected to participate are Elsinore High School, Temescal Canyon, Lakeside, Paloma Valley and Perris. Dr. Vick Knight, President of the Riverside County School Board, will once again serve as quizmaster. Judges will be from local Masonic Lodges. The general public is invited to attend and there is no charge for admission.

Water polo sign-ups
     Fall water polo is now in session for boys and girls ages 8 to 14 at Lakeside High School on Tuesday and Thursdays from 6 to 7:45 p.m. Some games will be played on weekends. Diplomas for veterans
     Operation Recognition is a program of the Riverside County Office of Education, with assistance from the Riverside County Department of Veteran’s Services, that presents diplomas to residents of Riverside County who missed completing high school due to military service in World War II, the Korean War or the Vietnam War, or because of internment in WWII Japanese-American relocation camps.
     Because of the tremendous response to the program, a second recognition ceremony for 2008 has been scheduled for Friday, November 14, at 10 a.m. In order to be recognized at the ceremony, completed application forms and supporting documentation must be received by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, October 1. Elks ‘Kulayd’ fundraiser
     Residents Bill and Bobbie White will host the fundraiser, “Kulayd Once Again,” which will raise money for the Lake Elsinore Elks Lodge general fund. The event will take place at Trevi Entertainment Center on Saturday, October 4. The cost is $40 per person. The fundraiser will begin with cocktails at 5 p.m., roast beef dinner at 6, followed by the show at 8. For more information, contact Bill or Bobbie White at 244-9719.

Bosom Buddies
     Bosom Buddies is a volunteer support organization dedicated to helping women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Women receive support and resources from other breast cancer survivors. Bingo
     The Canyon Lake Lions and Lioness Clubs host Bingo the first and third Sundays of each month starting at 1 p.m. and ending at approximately 4 p.m., in the City Multi-purpose Room. Cruise to Cabo
     The Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce four-day Baja Mexico cruise to Cabo San Lucas on Carnival’s “Elation” will set sail from San Diego on Thursday, December 4. Rates for the trip are $419.90 per person for an inside berth and $479 for an outside berth (cruise only with port and tax). A $100 deposit is required, of which $30 is non-refundable. Caregiver support group
     Caregiver Connection Support Group meets at Canyon Lake Community Church on the second and fourth Mondays of each month from 10 a.m. to noon in room D 140. The Caregivers Connection is a support group for caregivers and their patients. There are activities planned for both the caregiver and those for whom they are caring. Senior softball
     Softball players, ages 55 and older, are needed for a senior men’s league in Menifee. The league plays on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Wheatfield Park, which is located next to the Menifee Campus of Mt. San Jacinto Community College. Art Walk, Cruise Night

Computer Club
     The Computer Club of Menifee Valley welcomes all who have an interest in computers. It meets at 9 a.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month and offer presentations, guest speakers, question and answer sessions, a computer lab and computer classes. Hospital volunteers needed
     Menifee Valley Medical Center is seeking hospital volunteers. Only four hours of volunteer service per week qualifies as an active member of the hospital volunteer team. No experience is necessary; training will be provided. The next volunteer orientation is Thursday, October 2, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The minimum age for volunteers is 16 years old. Quilting fabric needed
     Quilting supplies, including fabric samples, remnants, old sheets, old blankets, new fabric, embroidery thread and batting are needed by a quilting group working in conjunction with the Lutheran World Relief (LWR), which provides quilts to those in need. The quilting group meets from 9 a.m. to noon on the third Thursday of each month, at Faith Lutheran Church, 28200 Portsmouth Dr. in Sun City, and welcomes quilters. Child advocates needed
     The local organization of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for children is seeking volunteers for its program. As trained advocates, CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to be a voice for these children in court. No special education or background is needed – just a desire to help abused and neglected children. Volunteers must pass a background check, followed by a 30-hour training course.      The Canyon Lake Woman’s Club still has copies of its cookbook, “Tastes of Paradise,” a creative gift for friends and family. The price is $20; proceeds benefit the Woman’s Club’s philanthropic endeavors in the community.

Donate a mammogram
     The Breast Cancer website invites people to click on its site daily so it can meet its quota of donating at least one free mammogram a day to an underprivileged woman. It takes less than a minute to go to the site, www.thebreastcancersite.com and click on “donating a mammogram” for free (pink window in the middle). This doesn’t cost one a thing. Corporate sponsors /advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate mammogram in exchange for advertising.
