     Donate Blood
     Beginning tomorrow there will be three opportunities for residents to donate blood in the coming week. The San Diego Blood Bank’s Bloodmobile will be at the Lake Elsinore Storm Stadium for the Tailgate Blood Drive tomorrow, August 9, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. On Tuesday, August 12, it will be at the Trevi Entertainment Center parking lot in Lake Elsinore from 1 to 6 p.m., and on Saturday, August 16, the Bloodmobile will be at the Canyon Hills Marketplace parking lot from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information call 800-479-3902.
     Casino Trip
     The Canyon Lake Lioness Club invites residents to join a bus trip to Pechanga Casino on Wednesday, August 13. The trip is a fundraiser for the club and the donation is $10. The casino will give each passenger a $5 coupon upon arrival. The bus will leave the Lodge parking lot at 8:30 a.m. and return from Pechanga at approximately 2:30 p.m.
     Those who have a current Pechanga Casino card should have their number available when making reservations. All Canyon Lake residents and their guests are welcome to come and enjoy the fun. For reservations or further information, contact Joanna Spiller at 244-1553.
     Jewish High Holidays
     Temple Lake Shalom will hold Jewish High Holiday services at the Lodge in September and October. Rosh Hashanah morning service will be held September 30; Yom Kippur Kol Nidre service will be held October 8; Yom Kippur morning Yizkor service and Yom Kippur concluding service with shofar will be held October 9.      Donate a paper
     The Friday Flyer is in need of a June 8, 2007 issue for the archives and would be appreciative to any resident who may have that issue and would like to donate it. The paper may be brought to 31558 Railroad Canyon Rd. in the Towne Center. For further information call 244-1966.
     Casino Night
     The Brett Downey Safety Foundation Casino Night 2008 will be held tomorrow, August 9, at 8 p.m. at the Escondido Cycle Center, 1415 Montiel Rd. in Escondido.      LEGS
     The Lake Elsinore Genealogical Society will meet Wednesdays, August 13 and 27, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Mission Trail Community Library, 34303 Mission Trail in Wildomar.      See ‘Altar Boyz’
     The Welk Resorts Theatre presents the Off-Broadway hit “Altar Boyz” through September 14. Winner of the 2005 Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Musical, “Altar Boyz” is described as a foot-stomping, rafter-rising musical comedy about a fictitious Christian boy-band on the last night of its national “Raise the Praise” tour.
     The Boyz are five singing, dancing heartthrobs from Ohio: Matthew, Mark, Luke and Juan – and Abraham – who satirize the phenomenon of boy bands, Christian-themed music and contemporary American culture.
     Ticket prices range from $44 to $47 for performance only and $58 to $63 for those who want to include a pre-show buffet at the Welk Resort’s Canyon Grille. Matinee performances are on Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday at 1:45 p.m. Evening performances are on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 8. Call the box office at 1-888-802-7469.
     Auditions for singers
     Experienced singers are invited to audition for the Don Morris Singers Christmas performances. Auditions will be held on Sunday, August 17. For more information, call 686-2091.
     Bingo
     The Canyon Lake Lions and Lioness Clubs host Bingo on the first and third Sundays of each month starting at 1 p.m. and ending at approximately 4 p.m., in the City Multi-purpose Room.      Cruise to Cabo
     The Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce four-day Baja Mexico cruise to Cabo San Lucas on Carnival’s “Elation” will set sail from San Diego on Thursday, December 4. Rates for the trip are $419.90 per person for an inside berth and $479 for an outside berth (cruise only with port and tax). A $100 deposit is required, of which $30 is non-refundable. A layaway plan is available as well as free bus transportation from Canyon Lake.

     Caregiver support group
     Caregiver Connection Support Group meets at Canyon Lake Community Church on the second and fourth Mondays of each month from 10 a.m. to noon in room D 140. The Caregivers Connection is a support group for caregivers and their patients. There are activities planned for both the caregiver and those for whom they are caring.      Art Walk, Cruise Night

     Senior softball
     Softball players, ages 55 and older, are needed for a senior men’s league in Menifee. The league plays on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Wheatfield Park, which is located next to the Menifee Campus of Mt. San Jacinto Community College.      Computer Club
     The Computer Club of Menifee Valley welcomes all who have an interest in computers. It meets at 9 a.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month and offer presentations, guest speakers, question and answer sessions, a computer lab and computer classes.      Hospital volunteers needed
     Menifee Valley Medical Center is seeking hospital volunteers. Only four hours of volunteer service per week qualifies as an active member of the hospital volunteer team.      Quilting fabric needed
     Quilting supplies, including fabric samples, remnants, old sheets, old blankets, new fabric, embroidery thread and batting are needed by a quilting group working in conjunction with the Lutheran World Relief (LWR), which provides quilts to those in need. The quilting group meets from 9 a.m. to noon on the third Thursday of each month, at Faith Lutheran Church, 28200 Portsmouth Dr. in Sun City, and welcomes quilters.      Host an exchange student
     The Academic Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (AFICE) is seeking host families for the upcoming school year. All exchange students attend the public high school, speak English, have their own spending money and medical insurance. For more information, visit www.afice.org.
     Enrolling kindergartners-to-be
     Kindergarten registration is taking place at the Centralized Enrollment Center, 545 Chaney St. Children who are or will be 5 years old before December 2, 2008, can enroll in kindergarten for the 2008-09 year.      Cookbooks still available
     The Canyon Lake Woman’s Club still has copies of its cookbook, “Tastes of Paradise,” a creative gift for friends and family. The cookbooks are on sale at Pack, Wrap and Post in the Towne Center or by calling Rita Wacker at 244-1881, Barbara Weatherman at 244-1618, Audrey Barrows at 244-5550, Barbara Duncan at 244-7513 or Sherry Attig 244-5378. The price is $20; proceeds benefit the Woman’s Club’s philanthropic endeavors in the community.
     Bosom Buddies
     Bosom Buddies is a volunteer support organization dedicated to helping women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Women receive support and resources from other breast cancer survivors.      Child advocates needed
     The local organization of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for children is seeking volunteers for its program. As trained advocates, CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to be a voice for these children in court. No special education or background is needed – just a desire to help abused and neglected children. Volunteers must pass a background check, followed by a 30-hour training course.      Donate a mammogram
     The Breast Cancer website invites people to click on its site daily so it can meet its quota of donating at least one free mammogram a day to an underprivileged woman. It takes less than a minute to go to the site, www.thebreastcancersite.com and click on “donating a mammogram” for free (pink window in the middle). This doesn’t cost one a thing. Corporate sponsors /advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate mammogram in exchange for advertising.
