Street Carts of Canyon Lake It's that time again for the Street Carts Canyon Lake Poker Run fundraiser. Everyone is invited to the event, which will be held at Holiday Harbor on Sunday, September 14, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Activities for family and friends will include games and music. Barbecued hamburgers and hotdogs will be sold. "Don't miss on this great time," says Mike Shroyer. Men’s Golf Club The last chance to sign up for The Paradise Classic Member/Guest Tournament is Sunday, August 31. The tournament is scheduled for September 12 to 14 and is filling up. The field is limited to the first 48 teams that submit their application by August 31. A record turnout is expected, according to Ken Mathes, who says, “The value for the tournament fee is substantial.” The tournament will include golf contests, food, drinks and prizes. For more information, contact Tournament Director Terry Terhune at 244-7616. Women’s Connection Vocalist and recording artist Marcia Gehris will entertain and speak on “What it really means to be a star” at the next Women’s Connection luncheon on Wednesday, September 10, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Lodge. The all-inclusive cost is $15. Reservations must be made by September 4 by calling 245-0535 or 678-1407. Non-perishable food items will be collected for a community project. For the boys, facilitator Ed Strong suggests Levis, T-shirts with V-neck sweaters or long sleeve dress shirts (tucked in) and a “duck tail” hairstyle. There will be a lot of swing dancing so participants should wear appropriate shoes. The annual Dance Contest will be held October 3; everyone is encouraged to line up his or her partner. Parents should obtain the phone numbers of their child’s partner to avoid problems. Everyone is expected to participate, even new students, according to Ed, who says a practice session will be held downstairs at the Lodge on the Wednesday prior to the event. The November session will be about table manners in preparation for the December 12 semi-formal dinner dance. For more information, call Ed at 244-4500.
