Club News

     Bassmasters
     The Canyon Lake Bassmasters held their monthly tournament at night to beat the heat on July 12, with 15 boats participating. The weigh-in was held at 2 a.m., with Bob Mance, pictured here, fishing by himself and topping the field with a five-fish limit tipping the scales at 23.23 lbs. Bob also had the Big Fish for the tournament at 8.15 lbs.
     In second place was the team of Joey Gambina and Rich Tucker with five fish weighing 22.36 lbs. In third place, also fishing alone, was Steve Baker with 17.09 lbs.
     The Canyon Lake Bassmasters meet on the first Wednesday of every month and hold a tournament on the following Saturday. They also hold six Team Open Tournaments per year, which are open to all residents of Canyon Lake. The club is active in many community events and hosts the annual Kids Fishing Derby each August. Those interested in learning more about bass fishing and low-pressure competition may call President Jon Evans at 244-5948.
     The club also sponsors a Junior Bassmasters club, which meets bimonthly and prior to the regular meetings. For more information, contact Sal Gervasi at 244-3294.
     CLAMS
     The CLAMS annual Laughlin trip will take place on September 21 to 23. The cost is $176 per room for double occupancy and $101 for single occupancy. The price includes two nights and three days at the Riverside Hotel and Casino, baggage handling, tax, tips and a round-trip wet bar bus, plus two buffets.      Car Club
     Join the Canyon Lake Car Club August 6, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Lake Elsinore Marketplace for cruise night. Monthly meetings are held at the Lodge the first Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m., with the next meeting set for August 7. Upcoming activities for the month of August include a progressive member garage tour and poker run.
     Visit the club’s website at canyonlakecarclub.com to view all club activities, Car of the Month and other photo galleries or to download an application to join. The club is now 100 members strong with room for more, and anyone owning a pre-1973 vehicle is welcome. 
     Twirlers
     The Twirlers Square Dance Club offers beginning square dance classes starting at 7 p.m. on the third Wednesday of January, May and September. Each session is open to new dancers for the first two weeks. All classes are held in the Holiday Bay Room at the Lodge and all ages are welcome. A $5 donation per class is requested with the first class free. 
     Workshops are held every Wednesday from 6:15 to 7 p.m. Club dances featuring guest callers and round dance cuers are held the second Sunday of each month from 2 to 5 p.m.
     Round dance classes are offered on Mondays from 12 to 2 p.m.; advanced classes from 2 to 4 p.m.
     A beginner line dance class is held Tuesdays from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the City Multi-purpose Room, led by Diana Gallagher; all ages welcome. A beginning to intermediate line dance class is offered Wednesdays from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Holiday Bay Room.

     Travel Club
     The fall dinner dance and general membership meeting will be held poolside at the Lodge on Friday, September 5. Music will be provided by the Cat-illacs. Cost is $40 per member. Deadline for reservations is August 29. Guest registrations will be accepted after August 1, if space is available, at a cost of $45 each.
     The bus for the Del Mar Thoroughbred Horse Races will depart from the Lodge on Thursday, July 31, at 10:30 a.m. and will return at 8:30 p.m. A wait list for this trip is available and those interested may call Pat Swink at 244-9021.
     Spaces are filling up for “Les Miserables” on Wednesday, August 27. For information, contact John or Lou DeYoung at 244-7100.
     Five multi-day trips are currently scheduled: “South Dakota – the Black Hills and Badlands,” October 7 to 13; “Christmas on the Danube,” December 10 to 18; “San Antonio and Dallas New Year’s,” December 28, 2008 to January 2, 2009; “South Pacific Wonders,” January 13 to 27, 2009; and “Discover the French Riviera,” March 4 to 11, 2009.
