Karaoke night
     A karaoke night open to everyone will be held at the Country Club on Wednesday, July 16, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Happy hour begins at 6. This evening of fun and music is sponsored by the Canyon Lake Choraleers, which is actively seeking new members.
     A karaoke DJ will be on hand with his equipment. For more information, call Beverly Chavira at 244-1724.

Casino trip
     The Canyon Lake Lioness Club invites residents to join it on a bus trip to Pechanga Casino on Wednesday, August 13. The trip is a fundraiser for the club and the donation is $10. The casino will give each passenger a $5 coupon upon arrival. The bus will leave the Lodge parking lot at 8:30 a.m. and return from Pechanga at approximately 2:30 p.m.
     Those who have a current Pechanga Casino card should have their number available when making reservations. All Canyon Lake residents and their guests are welcome to come and enjoy the fun. For reservations or further information, contact Joanna Spiller at 244-1553.

Donate blood tomorrow
     The San Diego Blood Bank’s Bloodmobile will be at the Canyon Hills Marketplace tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot at 29991 Canyon Hills Dr. For more information, visit www.valleybloodservices.org or call 800-479-3902.

Elks Lodge groundbreaking
     The Lake Elsinore Elks invite the public to attend a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the new Lake Elsinore Elks Lodge, to be held tomorrow, July 12, at 11 a.m. The previous lodge was destroyed by fire last November. The structure and foundation were removed from the property at 33700 Mission Trail in Wildomar. Members at a meeting held in June approved architectural plans for the new lodge.

Model search
     The 2nd annual Strike a Pose model search will take place at Lake Elsinore Outlets tomorrow, July 12, with registration held from 8 to 10 a.m. The search is open to boys and girls 4 to 19 years of age and will be held in the Liz Claiborne Courtyard. There will be six grand prize winners, who will be featured in Lake Elsinore Outlets’ 2008 print advertising and on its website. Prizes and entertainment will be provided. Winners also receive modeling agency representation for one year, a photo shoot, $250 shopping spree, and a backpack.
     Auditions begin at 10 a.m. and the winners will be announced at 1:30 p.m., followed by autographs with America’s Next Top Model finalist, Mercedes Yvette, from 1:45 to 3 p.m. Participants are asked to bring a new article of children’s clothing to benefit CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). Donate a paper
     The Friday Flyer is in need of a June 8, 2007 issue for the archives and would be appreciative to any resident who would like to donate it. The paper may be brought to 31558 Railroad Canyon Rd. in the Towne Center. For further information call 244-1966.

Charity car wash
     A Charity Car Wash will be held this Saturday, July 12, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Grace Church, 29720 Goetz Rd. in Quail Valley, to raise funds for the Children’s Bible School to be offered free to area children from August 4 to 8. Host a Japanese student
     Host families are needed for 20 students from Kagoshima, Japan, who will be here from July 23 to August 12. Mountain View Community Church is the host facility and all classroom studies and activities will be conducted there. The students are 12 to 17 years old, are proficient in English and want to experience a normal home life while here. Room sharing and foldout beds are acceptable. Casino Night
     The Brett Downey Safety Foundation, founded by Jim and Kathy Downey of Canyon Lake in memory of their son, Brett, is one of three sponsors for Casino Night 2008 to be held at the Escondido Cycle Center on Saturday, August 9, at 8 p.m. The event will boost awareness and raise funds for the foundation, which is dedicated to increasing safety awareness on local motocross tracks.

LEGS
     The Lake Elsinore Genealogical Society will meet during the summer on Wednesday, July 23, August 13 and August 27, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Mission Trail Community Library, 34303 Mission Trail in Wildomar (between Bundy Canyon and Palomar at Canyon Dr.) The autobiography workshop will be held during the summer on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month, until the regular meetings begin. Senior softball
     Softball players, ages 55 and older, are needed for a senior men’s league in Menifee. The league plays on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Wheatfield Park, which is located next to the Menifee Campus of Mt. San Jacinto Community College. Parent and child program
     The Lake Elsinore Unified School District’s Parent Participation Program is now accepting applications for its Cottonwood Canyon Elementary site. The class for parents with children newborn to age 5 meets twice a week. Parents will receive a parenting session and will participate in arts, crafts, music and learning activities with their children. Applications must be turned in at the district’s Children and Family Services office at 520 Chaney St. in Lake Elsinore between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. A copy of the child’s birth certificate is required. Art Walk, Cruise Night
     The Elsinore Valley Arts Network (EVAN) invites residents to its Saturday Night Art Walk on the first Saturday of each month from 3 to 7 p.m. For more information contact Robin Golden at 909-262-4684 or Barbara Middlebrook at 245-8890.

Bingo
     The Canyon Lake Lions and Lioness Clubs host Bingo on the first and third Sundays of each month starting at 1 p.m. and ending at approximately 4 p.m., in the City Multi-purpose Room. The next get-together is July 6. Bring a new guest and receive a $10 game card for free.

Caregiver support group
     Caregiver Connection Support Group meets at Canyon Lake Community Church on the second and fourth Mondays of each month from 10 a.m. to noon in room D 140. The Caregivers Connection is a support group for caregivers and their patients. There are activities planned for both the caregiver and those for whom they are caring. Computer Club
     The Computer Club of Menifee Valley welcomes all who have an interest in computers. Club members meet at 9 a.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month and offer presentations, guest speakers, question and answer sessions, a computer lab and computer classes. It is a free club with no dues. Meetings are two hours long and are held at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 29885 Bradley Rd. in Sun City. Investment club
     Parties interested in joining an investment club in Canyon Lake should call 951-848-9122 for a three-minute recorded message. According to organizer Ron Emshoff, the Canyon Lake Investment Club will be a member of the National Association of Investors Corporation, a non-profit association with a membership of over 12,000 clubs.  The club will take direction and bylaws from that association, along with the Better Investing Community and Bivio.
     Each member must sign a partnership agreement and participate in decisions of the club, which is in need of several officers to fill vacancies. There is also a need for persons to do research. Each partner needs an e-mail address as most meetings and communications will be over the Internet. 

Hospital volunteers needed
     Menifee Valley Medical Center is seeking hospital volunteers. Only four hours of volunteer service per week qualifies as an active member of the hospital volunteer team. No experience is necessary; training will be provided. The minimum age for volunteers is 16 years old. For more information call 679-8888, ext. 7254 or 925-6389.

Quilting fabric needed
     Quilting supplies, including fabric samples, remnants, old sheets, old blankets, new fabric, embroidery thread and batting are needed by a quilting group working in conjunction with the Lutheran World Relief (LWR), which provides quilts to those in need. The quilting group meets from 9 a.m. to noon on the third Thursday of each month, at Faith Lutheran Church, 28200 Portsmouth Dr. in Sun City, and welcomes quilters. Bosom Buddies
     Bosom Buddies is a volunteer support organization dedicated to helping women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Women receive support and resources from other breast cancer survivors. Host an exchange student
     Residents can add an international flavor to their household by hosting a foreign exchange student. The Academic Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (AFICE) is seeking host families for the upcoming school year. All exchange students attend the public high school, speak English, have their own spending money and medical insurance. There is no fee to participate, other than that of feeding and housing an additional family member. For more information, visit www.afice.org.

Child advocates needed
     The local organization of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for children is seeking volunteers for its program, which speaks for the best interests of abused and neglected children in the courts.
     As trained advocates, CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to be a voice for these children in court. No special education or background is needed – just a desire to help abused and neglected children. Volunteers must pass a background check, followed by a 30-hour training course. Enrolling kindergartners-to-be
     Kindergarten registration is taking place at the Centralized Enrollment Center, 545 Chaney St. Children who are or will be 5 years old before December 2, 2008, can enroll in kindergarten for the 2008-09 year. Cookbooks still available
     The Canyon Lake Woman’s Club still has copies of its cookbook, “Tastes of Paradise,” a creative gift for friends and family. The cookbooks are on sale at Pack, Wrap and Post in the Towne Center or by calling Rita Wacker at 244-1881, Barbara Weatherman at 244-1618, Audrey Barrows at 244-5550, Barbara Duncan at 244-7513 or Sherry Attig 244-5378. The price is $20; proceeds benefit the Woman’s Club’s philanthropic endeavors in the community.

Donate a mammogram
     The Breast Cancer website invites people to click on its site daily so it can meet its quota of donating at least one free mammogram a day to an underprivileged woman. It takes less than a minute to go to the site, www.thebreastcancersite.com and click on “donating a mammogram” for free (pink window in the middle). This doesn’t cost one a thing. Corporate sponsors /advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate mammogram in exchange for advertising.
