Special to The Friday Flyer

Members of the Canyon Lake Community Theater and Performing Arts Association invite their friends and neighbors to join them in “Bringing Back the Magic – the Best of CLCT” as they present much loved vignettes of past productions on Friday, April 11, Saturday, April 12, and Sunday, April 13, at the Lodge.
Friday’s performance will be a dinner show with a no-host bar beginning at 5:30 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6:30 and the performance will begin at 7:30. Tickets for this performance are $35.
The Saturday performance is the Benefactor Dinner Theater, starting with dinner at 5 p.m. and the show at 6. This performance is also available to the public at a price of $35; however, reservations must be made in advance.
Audience members attending the two dinner shows will be seated at festive tables representative of past productions and decorated by cast members.
Sunday’s performance is general seating, with curtain up at 6:30 p.m.  Tickets are $15 for preferred seating, $12 for general seating and $10 for seniors and children.
“We’re showcasing the very best of our very best,” says Director Lisa Tousseau. “It’s an opportunity for some of those who originated roles to get together with those who are new to our group and ‘bring back the magic’ we’ve shared with our audiences. This is your opportunity to experience your favorite musical theater moments again and get a glimpse of some of those moments you might have missed. This is one show you don’t want to miss.”

A trip down memory lane
When the dark comedy “Little Shop of Horrors” opened in 2004, Horticulture Hell and blood lust took up residence at Indian Beach’s Moonlight Theater. Fortified with music in the style of doo-wop, Motown and rock and roll, Canyon Lake audiences watched the comedic, moral descent of a timid floral shop worker, Seymour, as he allowed himself to be manipulated by an evil, lip-smacking, alien-talking plant that fed on human blood. Dana Woempner and Stephanie Vecchione shared the role of Audrey, and Corky Post played the crazed dentist. The play was directed by Leslie Vecchione.
Canyon Lake audiences were mesmerized by a “Lullaby of Broadway” in the fall of 2006 when “42nd Street” opened at Lakeside High School. Monty Jordan won an Inland Theater League Award for his role as Director Julian Marsh. Ashley Post played star-struck Broadway hopeful, Peggy Sawyer, with Tracey Vartanian playing the aging prima donna, Dorothy Brock.  The 42nd Street Dancers, featuring Carla Ward, will dust off their tap shoes and “Shuffle Off to Buffalo” to entertain the audience in the upcoming CLCT production.
The modern musical revue, “Songs for a New World,” made its Canyon Lake debut in the spring of 2007. With sparse dialogue and intricate, emotional musical numbers fusing pop, folk, jazz, gospel and cabaret, the unique show brought comedy and drama to the stage and chronicled the highs and lows of five characters and their marvel, excitement and anxiety associated with discovery. Returning cast members include Jeff Sherwood, Tara Miller and Lisa Tousseau. Coco Morrison directed the ensemble.
The premier of “Gypsy” in the fall of 2007 left audiences “begging for more” as they admired the strength of a woman who believed that “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” despite the hardships and uncertainty of show business life during the Great Depression.  The musical, based loosely on the lives of Burlesque Queen Gypsy Rose Lee and actress June Havoc, featured many songs that became popular standards, including “Let me Entertain You.”  Reprising their roles will be Lisa Tousseau as domineering stage mother Mama Rose, Tara Miller as Gypsy Rose Lee, and Maryanne Stevens, Coco Morrison and Janell Basham as the comical strippers who proved “You Gotta Have a Gimmick.”  Directed by Ilene Moore, the musical was nominated for and won several Inland Theater League Awards.
Cast members in next week's production include Lisa Tousseau, Sean Tousseau, Tara Miller, Carlee Blakemore, David Van Breeman, Maryanne Stevens, Sue Bolton, Leslie Vecchione, Jeannie Corral, Coco Morrison, Janine Gompper, Janelle Basham, Robert Parker, Nick Tousseau, Kayla Parker, Jennifer Ward, Katie Bolton, Jocelyn Basham, Tisha Romero, Max Romero, Kevin Ruiter, Caitlyn Vecchione, Jeff Sherwood, Tony Candelaria, Eric Czack, Spencer Hardesty and the 42nd Street Dancers, featuring Carla Ward.
