Club News Motorcycle Club The Canyon Lake Motorcycle Club, which was sanctioned last summer, will be holding a general meeting for all Canyon Lake motorcyclists on Wednesday, January 7, at 7 p.m., at Blue Bird Hall. The primary purpose of the meeting will be the election of new officers. The officer positions are president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, ride event coordinator and safety. In addition to election of officers, the club also will be discussing future motorcycle rides, civic events and other topics of interest. For more information, call Chuck Marler at 244-2809. Women's Golf Club The Women's Golf Club held its annual Christmas Tournament and Installation of Officers for the coming year on December 16. Despite the previous day's rain, the nine-hole, six-person scramble tournament with 128 players went as planned. Tee prize-winners received golfĘbag purses.Ę Ora Peterson created the centerpieces for the Christmas lunch and Ura Furry, Pat Spencer, Rose Hanover, Jan McNeil, Chuck Furry, Don Sjomeling, Sandy Nelson, Babette Stubb and Lorrie Sjomeling decorated the room. Catering was provided by “Once Upon a Wedding.” Flight tournament winners were: A Flight – 1st: Brenda Adams, Marilyn Bridges, Barbara Kryka, Judy Terhune, Nina Scotti and Donna Cannon; 2nd: Sandy Avery, Cheryl Ritsema, Jody McConville, Marion Ewing and Ann Carter. B Flight – 1st: Inga Loy, Linda Johnson, Lila Gann, Sue Hoover, Clair Bond and Carol Newsom; 2nd: Donna Nunes, Lorrie Cobb, Mary Craton, Maxine Whalen, Alice Ramirez and Barbara Smith. C Flight – 1st: Linday Kamashian, Leslie Brand, Tish Doll, Rose Hand, Shelia Henderson and Marlene Cathro; 2nd: Patti Miles, Eileen Conzelman, Irene Vladic, Charlotte Peterson, Mickie Cullen and Ellen Skillstead. D Flight – 1st: Dee Otte, Jo Garside, Marge Donaldson, Jean McCollum, Doris Bellville and Dottie Armbrust; 2nd: Dorothy Washle, Betty Henry, Carla Cords, Dorothy O’Driscoll, Mary Petty and Darlene Crinion. Yearly awards also were presented, including Most Improved Golfer of the Year to Mary Leathley. Tuesday Low Gross of the Year went to Barbara Kryka; Tuesday Low Ace of the Year was awarded to Pat Spencer; Saturday Low Gross of the Year was awarded to Patti Miles; and the Saturday Low Net of the Year went to Irene Vladic. The new officers for 2009 are President Brenda Adams, Tournament Chairman Marilyn Bridges, Handicap Chairman Cheryl Ritsema, Treasurer Babette Stubb, Recording Secretary Dawn Haggerty, Corresponding Secretary Julie Faia, Membership Judy Terhune, Rules Barbara Mensch and Social Chairman Marion Ewing. Travel Club Since the first trip to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) was sold out, a second trip has been arranged for Thursday, March 19. Full names and ages are required for both trips on the reservation form. EntrŽe selections are chicken piccata, fish of the day or sirloin steak. The cost is $58 for members. See the newsletter for JPL requirements and restrictions. The trip to the Magic Castle is on Sunday, March 22, and includes brunch and matinee performances. The cost is $110 for members. Lions Club The Canyon Lake Lions Club will hold its next meeting on Thursday, January 8, at 7 p.m. downstairs at the Lodge. The program will include a speaker from Helping Our People in Elsinore (H.O.P.E.). Dessert and coffee will be served. The Lions are part of the world's largest service organization, Lions Clubs International, dedicated to helping the sight impaired and people in need around the world. The Canyon Lake Lions contribute to many organizations in the community as well as guide Dogs of the Desert, Loma Linda Eye Center, City of Hope, to name a few. The club also collects used eyeglasses, which are used by Friends Across the Border to donate to those who cannot afford them. The club's next major project will be the annual golf tournament on March 12, 2009. Anyone interested in finding out more about the organization should contact President Jack Melcher at 244-4115. Cotillion Registration for next year will be held January 9. Instructor Ed Strong is hoping more young gentlemen will join and is encouraging members to pass the word. Because of difficult financial times, a few things will be different next year, according to Ed. Registration will be $45; additional family members will be $35. Student instructors will pay half the normal fee. It also will be possible to pay tuition monthly at the door at a cost of $5 per person. The 2009 holiday dinner-dance will not be included in the registration fee and will be paid at the time of the event (estimated cost is $25 to $30). The annual ice-skating event and the picnic event will not be on the schedule, but may be added in the future. For questions on dress code or for more information, contact Ed at 244-4500. Car Club The club holds monthly meetings the first Thursday of each month at the Lodge at 5:30 p.m.; however, please note that January’s meeting will be held January 8. Twirlers The Canyon Lake Twirlers Square Dance Club's Phase One class is held every Wednesday from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Phase Two classes are held from 8:15 to 9:30 p.m. and teaches the higher level calls to prepare the dancers to attend all club level dances on the second Sunday of each month as well as dances sponsored by other clubs. Round dance classes are offered on Mondays from 12 to 2 p.m.; advanced classes from 2 to 4 p.m. A beginner line dance class is held Tuesdays from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the City Multi-purpose Room, led by Diana Gallagher; all ages are welcome. A beginning to intermediate line dance class is offered Wednesdays from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Holiday Bay Room. For more information, call Randy Gibson at 246-1846 or Wayne Canfield at 246-2514. Art Association The Art Association meets the first Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. in the Towne Center Conference Room. The public is invited. Every Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. the Art Association hosts a “Monday Night Painters” workshop at Blue Bird Hall. CLAMS This is the time for all new members to sign up for the Canyon Lake Association of Men. The special $30 membership price will include the free steak dinner and full membership for all of 2009. It also includes the free picnic and cocktail parties for members and their guests and early sign-up for the Laughlin trip at the Aquarius Casino (formerly Flamingo).
