Little League movie night
     Residents are invited to join the Canyon Lake Little League for an open-air movie night to celebrate the wrap-up of another Fall Ball series at Gault Field. Following a full day of games on Saturday, November 8, the 1993 kids’ baseball movie, “The Sandlot,” will be shown at 6 p.m., with the Little League snack bar and grill offering popcorn and other goodies to enjoy during the movie.

MOPS garage sale
     The Mothers of Preschoolers group at Canyon Lake Community Church will hold a garage sale tomorrow, November 8, from 7 a.m. to noon in the parking lot next to the chapel at 30515 Railroad Canyon Rd. For more information, call 244-1877.

Bingo
     The Canyon Lake Lions and Lioness Clubs host Bingo the first and third Sundays of each month at 1 p.m. in the City Multi-purpose Room. The next Bingo will be held on November 16. Portions of I-215 to close next week
     Portions of Interstate 215 in Murrieta will be completely closed to traffic on Nov. 12 to 14 to complete  construction of the Linnel Ln. bridge over-crossing. All northbound I-215 lanes will be closed from Clinton Keith Rd. to Scott Rd. on November 12, beginning at 10 p.m. The lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. on November 13. All southbound I-215 lanes will be closed from Scott Rd. to Clinton Keith Rd. on November 13, beginning at 9 p.m. They will re-open by 4 a.m. on November 14.
     Detours will be clearly marked. Message signs on the freeway in each direction will let motorists know of the planned closures ahead of time. California Highway Patrol will assist in enforcing the closure.

Cookbooks still available
     The Canyon Lake Woman’s Club is offering the “Tastes of Paradise” cookbook. “This is a wonderful addition to your cooking library with recipes for all seasons, complete party menus, holiday menus and much more. The holidays are coming and this is a great opportunity to get some early shopping done with creative gifts for family and friends,” says Joanna Spiller.

They can also be purchased at Pack, Wrap and Post in the Towne Center. The price is $20 each, or two for $35; proceeds from the sales will be donated to organizations supported by the Woman’s Club in its ongoing efforts to help others less fortunate.

Lioness brownie jars
     The Canyon Lake Lioness Club will be selling its world-famous brownie mix jars during the holiday season. There are only a limited number left. Each jar is hand-decorated in a holiday motif, filled with the dry ingredients and finished with holiday material and ribbon. They are appropriate for hostess, thank you or Christmas gifts. The price is $8 each or two for $15. Proceeds from this project will be used to help those less fortunate in the community. Call Lioness LaRue McNamara at 244-6470 or Mary Ann Petty at 244-8407.

Craft Fair
     Eagle Ridge Church will hold its annual Craft Fair and Chili Cook-off, tomorrow, November 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 25891 Holland Rd. in Menifee.

Senior softball
     Softball players 55 and older are needed for a senior men’s league in Menifee. The league plays on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Wheatfield Park, next to the Menifee campus of Mt. San Jacinto Community College. For more information, call Ed Hustead at 679-8626.

LEGS meeting
     A meeting of the Lake Elsinore Genealogical Society (LEGS) will be held Wednesday, November 12, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Mission Trail Community Library, 34303 Mission Trail in Wildomar. Ann Miller will speak about “Unusual Places.” The program will feature records from various resources in the U.S. that can be used to enhance genealogy research. Auxiliary fundraiser
     The Menifee Valley Medical Center Auxiliary will hold a two-day jewelry sale on November 10 and 11 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Merchandise will include watches, rings and necklaces priced at $5 plus tax. A portion of the proceeds will go the auxiliary for hospital projects. The sale will take place in the main lobby of the hospital at 28400 McCall Blvd. in Menifee. Bridge Marathon
     It’s time for couples and ladies to register for the Annual Bridge Marathon, sponsored by the Woman’s Club. All games are played as foursomes in the entrants’ home, beginning in January and finishing at the end of May. Entrants will play a maximum of five times. An awards dessert will be held on June 18 at the Lodge and prizes will be awarded in all divisions.
     Registration will be open until January 7; the entry fee is $10 per person. Make checks payable to Canyon Lake Woman’s Club and mail to Betty Whitaker, 23456 Continental Way, Canyon Lake. For more information, call Betty at 244-4423.

Hospital volunteers needed
     Menifee Valley Medical Center is seeking volunteers. Only four hours of volunteer service per week qualifies as an active member of the hospital volunteer team. No experience is necessary; training will be provided. The minimum age for hospital volunteers is 16 years old. For more information call 679-8888, ext. 7254 or 925-6389.

Cornerstone sports activities
     Cornerstone Community Church invites residents to join in the following evening community sports activities: indoor soccer on Mondays from 7 to 9 p.m.; men’s basketball on Wednesdays from 7 to 10 p.m.; co-ed dodgeball on Thursdays from 7:30 to 10 p.m.; and co-ed volleyball on Fridays from 7 to 10 p.m.

Bosom Buddies
     Bosom Buddies is a volunteer support organization dedicated to helping women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Women receive support and resources from other breast cancer survivors. Caregiver support group
     Caregiver Connection Support Group meets at Canyon Lake Community Church on the second and fourth Mondays of each month from 10 a.m. to noon in room C5 and C6.

Art Walk, Cruise Night

Computer Club
     The Computer Club of Menifee Valley welcomes all who have an interest in computers. It meets at 9 a.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month and offer presentations, guest speakers, question and answer sessions, a computer lab and computer classes. Quilting fabric needed
     Quilting supplies, including fabric samples, remnants, old sheets, old blankets, new fabric, embroidery thread and batting are needed by a quilting group working in conjunction with the Lutheran World Relief (LWR), which provides quilts to those in need.The quilting group meets from 9 a.m. to noon on the third Thursday of each month, at Faith Lutheran Church, 28200 Portsmouth Dr. in Sun City, and welcomes quilters. Child advocates needed
     The local organization of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for children is seeking volunteers for its program. As trained advocates, CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to be a voice for these children in court.
     No special education or background is needed – just a desire to help abused and neglected children. Volunteers must pass a background check, followed by a 30-hour training course. For more information contact Deborah Sutton at 304-5220 or visit www.nationalcasa.org.

Donate a mammogram
     The Breast Cancer website invites people to click on its site daily so it can meet its quota of donating at least one free mammogram a day to an underprivileged woman. It takes less than a minute to go to the site, www.thebreastcancersite.com and click on “donating a mammogram” for free (pink window in the middle).
     This doesn’t cost one a thing. Corporate sponsors /advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate mammogram in exchange for advertising.
