Activities Manager Wow, is it almost December? Soon, Christmas and all the holiday fun will be upon us. So much to do and just so little time to get it all done. The Canyon Lake POA Recreation Department is here to make sure Christmas season is a happy and joyous time of year for all of our members. So, put down the shopping bags and set aside a little time for yourself and your family to enjoy one of the many community events that are sure to bring cheer to one and all! The first event for the season will be the Gary Bonner Singers Christmas Concert. This group was created in 1995 and performed at the White House during the Christmas season last year. The concert will take place on December 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the Holiday Bay Room at the Lodge. Tickets are on sale at the Member Services desk for $20 each. On December 6, Holiday Harbor will be transformed into a winter wonderland for our annual Snow Day. “Snow” is blown onto the slopes of the park and children can purchase a wristband for $8 each that will entitle them to unlimited “rides” down the slopes. There also will be a flat area for the little ones to play in the snow. Good Time Entertainment will play music of the season; a club is invited to sell refreshments as a fundraiser. The hours of Snow Day will be 12 to 4 p.m. The annual Tree Lighting Ceremony sponsored by the Jr. Women’s Club will start at 4 p.m. on December 7. Local dance groups and clubs will perform on the stage in the Holiday Bay Room. Santa will arrive on his sleigh (a fire truck) at approximately 5 p.m. Cookies and hot chocolate will warm your hearts and are provided by the POA. December 13 is the Parade of Lights boat parade, sponsored by the Yacht Club. The parade starts at East Port at approximately 5:15 p.m. and travels through the East Bay to the Main Lake via the Main Causeway. It will continue on the Main Lake to the North Causeway, then make a U-turn and end at Holiday Harbor. This is new from years past so be sure to go to the right place. Come to Holiday Harbor and see all the boats as the trophies are awarded. The Yacht Club also will make available hot dogs and hot chocolate. The parade can be viewed from any of the waterfront parks and the Lodge. Unfortunately this is not Canyon Lake’s year to have the RTA Express Bus to the Festival of Lights at the Mission Inn. This is a very popular event and RTA does not do the same communities two years in a row. So, hopefully, we will be on its list for next year. There are plenty of events for you and your family to attend to ensure the Christmas spirit is alive and well in Canyon Lake. Come on out and be a part of the celebrations. We look forward to seeing you! |
