Yard sale The Canyon Lake YMCA will hold a yard sale on Friday and Saturday, June 15 and 16, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Blue Bird Hall. Anyone who would like to donate items for this fundraiser is asked to contact Celia Sawyer at 232-6207. No furniture or large appliances please. All proceeds will benefit the local YMCA program.Patriotic program Good News Dance Co. will present “God Bless America,” a celebration to honor the men and women who serve in the country’s armed forces. Genealogy Society meeting The next meeting of the Lake Elsinore Genealogy Society will be held Wednesday, June 13, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Mission Trail Community Library, located at 34303 Mission Trail in Wildomar. Randy Thompson of The National Archives will be the featured speaker and will present his workshop “Naturalization and Immigration Resources,” covering the basic information regarding those processes including legislation throughout American History as well as advice on locating desired records. LEGS meets the second Wednesday of each month except in July and August. An autobiography writing workshop is also hosted the first Wednesday of each month at 1:30 p.m. (except July) and the Beginning Genealogy workshops are presented the fourth Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m.; non-members are asked to pay $5 to cover the cost of materials. The Summer water polo program is starting June 18 and will run through July 27. Programs are available for both boys and girls and the cost is $250 per student and includes a team suit and T-shirt, coaching, games and tournaments, with practice five days per week, two league games each week and at least three tournaments. Make your pet a pin-up! Animal Friends of the Valleys is currently accepting entries for their 2008 Pet Pin-up Calendar. A professional panel will choose 13 photos to be featured as “Pet of the Month” plus the front cover. All other photos will be included on collage pages in the calendar and all proceeds from the calendar will benefit animals at the shelter. Cat adoptions half price To celebrate national Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat Month, Animal Friends of the Valleys is offering cat adoptions at a 50 percent savings throughout the month of June. Pets can be visited Monday through Saturday at 29001 Bastron Ave. in Lake Elsinore from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and many adoptable pets can be viewed on the shelter’s website, www.animalfriendsofthevalleys.com. AFV also hosts satellite adoption sites every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lake Elsinore Petco store.Furry Friends Kids Camp Animal Friends of the Valley is offering four five-day sessions called “Furry Friends Kids Camp” this summer, led by Humane Educator Leslie Kegley. Open to children 8 to 12 years old, the daily sessions will teach basic pet care, bite prevention and the importance of controlling the pet population. Sessions are June 25 to 29, July 9 to 13, July 23 to 27 and August 6 to 10. Each session will cost $50 per child and will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Space is limited. Pancake breakfast The Lake Elsinore Elks Lodge will be hosting a Family Pancake Breakfast tomorrow, June 9, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. to promote family togetherness and values, as well as to acquaint the public with the lodge’s community involvement and charitable activities. Pancakes, eggs and sausage along with coffee and milk will be available for $3.95 per person, and tickets will be sold at the lodge prior to the breakfast. Day camp sign-ups Southwest Family YMCA has started taking sign-ups for their summer day camp at Canyon Lake Middle School. Camps are for children 5 to 12 years old; and run from June 18 to August 17. Camps run in two-week sessions. Hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Each session has a theme with lots of activities planned, as well as field trips, water play, a special “insect show” and more. Adoption seminar The Independent Adoption Center will be offering an Adoption Information Session July 21, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at their Los Angeles office, located at 5777 W. Century Blvd., Ste. 1450. The seminar will feature an experienced adoption professional who will discuss open adoption from the initial stages through finalization and outline all costs. Home delivered meals The Canyon Lake members of the Red Hat Society, Red Hot Hats, continue to offer hot lunches for shut-ins five days a week on behalf of the Riverside County Home Delivered Meals program. The women pick up the freshly prepared meals at the Kay Ceniceros Center in Sun City to deliver to homes in Canyon Lake. Youth water polo Register now for summer session water polo, running from now until mid-August and open to boys and girls age 8 to 14. Practice is held at the Lakeside High School pool Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 6 to 8 p.m., with games and common training on some weekends. Reunion slated for summer Canyon Lake residents who attended Elsinore High School are invited to an Open Reunion slated for Saturday, August 25, from 6 p.m. to midnight at Pechanga Resort and Casino in nearby Temecula. The Open Reunion has already attracted several hundred former graduates, some from the 1940s and 1950s, including several retired teachers, according to Tim Hodges and Cecilia Dominguez Black, two of the alumni organizers.
