Creative writing assignment: What will Canyon Lake look like 50 years from now?

In 1927 the Temescal Water Company started building a dam that would capture water from the San Jacinto River and turn it into a lake. That was 80 years ago.
In May 1937 the original Evans Fish Camp opened in an area now known as Indian Beach. That was 70 years ago.
In January 1957 a snowstorm blanketed the hills and shoreline of Railroad Canyon Reservoir with almost six inches of snow. That was 50 years ago.
In June 1967, the Evans/Martin families celebrated the 30th anniversary of the opening of the Fish Camp with a party and fishing contest at the remodeled resort. That was 40 years ago.
Think of it – as recently as 40 years ago, practically the only sign of civilization on the shores of Canyon Lake was the Martins’ fishing resort.
Just for fun, The Friday Flyer staff would like to invite Canyon Lakers to imagine what Canyon Lake will look like 40 or 50 years from now and send their description to the paper. This isn’t a contest. No one will look back 50 years from now to judge whether you were right or wrong.
This is simply a creative writing challenge for futurists, environmentalists, real estate agents, optimists, pessimists and other creative thinkers to picture the future. From children to the elderly – everyone is welcome to offer their ideas.
Perhaps you want to write a humorous piece about the Lodge or an insightful treatise on how cars of the future will make our roads obsolete. What about the lake itself; what will it look like? Do you believe it will still be here? You may even want to describe what your own home will look like 50 years from now.
Unless there is so much response stories must be shortened, writers may express their creativity in up to 500 words, give or take. This will be an ongoing feature, so there is no deadline.
Please provide your stories by e-mail to news@goldingpublications.com, or mail or bring in typed copy to the office in the Towne Center at 31558 Railroad Canyon Rd.
