According to one reviewer, "Eight Below" is an often agonizing depiction of how these plucky, beautiful animals save themselves and one another; and although the dogs have surely been Disney-fied to some extent, the sequences of them trying to survive are magnificent and deeply moving. Bring the Kleenex, and hug your pups when you get home.

Cool down at tonight's Movie Night in the park

Another of the popular POA-sponsored Family Movie Nights will be held tonight, September 1. According to Mike Shroyer of Good Time Entertainment, this evening’s film will be “Eight Below,” a Disney movie rated PG for some peril and brief mild language.
This is a 2006 movie with the following plot: In the Antarctic, after an expedition with Dr. Davis McClaren (played by Bruce Greenwood), the sled dog trainer Jerry Shepherd (played by Paul Walker) has to leave the polar base with his colleagues because of the proximity of a heavy snow storm. He ties his dogs to be rescued after, but the mission is called-off and the dogs are left alone at their own fortune. For six months, Jerry tries to find a sponsor for a rescue mission while his dogs fight for survival.
     The movie runs 120 minutes.
Tonight’s show time is 8:30 p.m. and residents are invited to bring their blankets or lawn chairs to enjoy another fun-filled event under the stars.
The last Movie Night will be held September 22, and families are asked to put that date on their calendars and save it for another exciting event.
