Happy Father's Day – Canyon Lakers celebrate Dads
Father’s Day is this Sunday, and Canyon Lakers will be celebrating with special dinners, picnics and fun on the lake. The Friday Flyer has invited a group of children to draw pictures of the special man in their life and to tell the world just why their Dad is the best.
GM explains prohibition of motorcycles here
In an effort to better inform the members of Canyon Lake, the Association would like to explain why vehicles such as Rhinos ATV’s and similar vehicles are prohibited under Canyon Lake’s recorded Declarations of Restrictions.

Vegetation fire quickly contained, arson suspected
Firefighters from Canyon Hills Station 94 and Canyon Lake’s Station 60 responded to a call for a suspicious fire on the 22000 block of Canyon Lake Drive South this past Wednesday afternoon. An alert neighbor called 9-1-1 when she noticed flames coming from the front yard.
Community Clean Up Day is June 24
The City of Canyon Lake and CR&R will join together Saturday, June 24, to provide a Community Clean Up Day for residents here. The event will be held at the Canyon Lake Community Church from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. when all normal household trash and green waste, as well as bulky items such as sofas and refrigerators, will be accepted.
Canyon Lake Little League teams go to Tournament of Champions
Showing their determination to stay in the competition, the Jr. Brewers dominated their second round game against Menifee Valley on Tuesday evening, winning 13-0; and on Wednesday night, they beat Oceanside American 6-3.
CLLL announces golf cart drawing winner
Marilyn Diaz was the winner of the brand new custom golf cart raffled off at Canyon Lake Little League’s closing ceremonies.
Battle Club members take 1st at championship
The Battle Club of Canyon Martial Arts dominated at the 2006 Elite Tae Kwon Do Championships held in Oceanside on June 3. In a field of 800 entries from all over the Western states and Mexico, eight of 14 fighters placed 1st, four placed 2nd and two placed 3rd in the full contact Olympic-style fighting.

Steve Lokus has been wearing the same Pepperdine University shirt to his grandson Paul Coleman’s baseball games for the past four years. It’s so worn it finally developed a hole under the arm but he wouldn’t give it up for the same reason Michael Jordan always wore his blue North Carolina shorts under his Bulls uniform for good luck – superstition, of course.
Girl gets her wish – a trip to Walt Disney World
Jessi Riddle, 11, was recently granted a wish from the Make a Wish Foundation when she and her parents, Paul and Lynn Riddle and sister Jami, 9, received a first class trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, from June 4 to 10.

The Lake Elsinore American Legion Auxiliary is proud to announce that Tracy Empson, a Canyon Lake resident and junior at Temescal Canyon High School, will represent Lake Elsinore in the 2006 Girl’s State Convention in July. She was chosen because of her outstanding leadership skills and interest in the field of politics.
EHS wins fitness challenge
The Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports has awarded Elsinore High School a $1,000 prize for successfully motivating 797 students to take the Governor’s Challenge and be more active.
CLMS Cougar Awards Night
More than 450 students were honored at the annual Cougar Awards Night hosted at Canyon Lake Middle School on Thursday, June 8. Keynote speaker was Canyon Lake resident Bob Murdoch, the president and founder of an international adoption agency.
Viewing London from 'The Eye'
Jeanie Corral and her husband, Ray, spent Friday, May 19, through Saturday, June 3, in England where they both got a chance to work with Marilyn Stevens, an English teacher and her husband, Roger. The couple got acquainted in 2000 when Marilyn came to be part of an exchange program for The Young Americans.
English and American education is a lot alike
During the last weeks of May and the first week of June, I was able to see up close and quite clearly what goes on in at least one school system located in Bristol, England. The school, named Henbury, had a student body of 850 students that wore uniforms and followed a similar regimen to what our schools in Lake Elsinore are facing.

In Memoriam: Frank William
Frank William “Bill” Britt, a longtime resident of Canyon Lake, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2006, at the age of 74, after suffering with Parkinson’s disease.
Letter: Regarding motorcycles
I was the person who recently proposed rule changes regarding access of motorcycles and would like to respond to the questions Jim Corson raised in last week’s letters to the editor. They were good questions that need to be clarified.
Letter: Reconsider motorcycle ban
When we moved to Canyon Lake, my husband and I were aware that motorcycle riding was restricted in the community. That was 20 years ago. Today we live in a rapidly changing world. The price of gasoline is a major issue, as is environmental pollution and conservation.

Well, here we go again with the motorcycles. We didn’t ask you to move here; you chose to do so. You knew you couldn’t ride your motorcycles inside the gate.

4th of July is just around the corner
It’s hard to believe that the 4th of July weekend is only three weeks away – so it’s time to begin planning now. Since it’s one of the biggest and most celebrated days in the year for Canyon Lakers, the POA is asking residents to think ahead to make the holiday a happy and safe one for homeowners and guests alike.
Swim lessons begin next week
Swimming lessons are scheduled to begin next week. There will be classes for infants, toddlers and children with skills from beginning to advanced in seven levels. Registration is ongoing and takes place in the Pool Office from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon.
More art classes planned during the summer
Want to learn to oil paint? You’ll have two more opportuntites this summer as the POA will sponsor two more classes. “EZ Oil Painting” promises that students will discover the joy of painting, according to instructor Rita Forand.
Taco Tuesday fun has begun
Canyon Lakers are enjoying the ever-popular Taco Tuesday events and are gathering at the Lodge by the hundreds. The fun starts each week at 5 p.m. and continues until 9. Geared toward family fun, the event features a jump house and a water slide for the younger set.
Kids have fun learning and playing
Canyon Lake’s YMCA program for pre-schoolers continues to grow, and youngsters are enjoying the activities provided three days a week. The group meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Blue Bird Hall and on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to noon at Holiday Harbor.
