Viewing London from 'The Eye'

Columnist and LEUSD School Board member Jeanie Corral, at right, looks out from the famous London Eye, over the Thames River with Big Ben and Westminster Abbey spires directly behind. The London eye, built by British Airways is the world’s largest Ferris wheel was put up to celebrate the millennium. More than 6,000 visitors get an unbelievable sight of the city of London from the wheel as it makes a complete revolution every half hour. Jeanie and her husband, Ray, spent Friday, May 19, through Saturday, June 3, in England where they both got a chance to work with Marilyn Stevens, an English teacher and her husband, Roger. The couple got acquainted in 2000 when Marilyn came to be part of an exchange program for The Young Americans. Both the Corrals and the Strevens have visited each other in the past six years. Jeanie and Ray were able to spend time in Henbury School in Bristol, England where they met with students and teachers. Marilyn arranged that Jeanie and her husband could work with the school as the term came to a close for the English Bank Holiday. They also visited several other points of interest while there including three days in London where they went to the British Natural History Museum, the palace, Hyde Park, a West end production of “Guys and Dolls” performed with a British accent and several other famous points of interest.
