The Friends are sponsoring a Summer Reading Program that will begin next at the Canyon Lake Library next Monday, June 19, for children from 2 to 14 years of age. “Paws, Claws, Scales and Tales” is being offered to encourage reading at all levels with rewards, story times, family programs and special summer events. Families are welcome to come to the library and pick up an invitation with information about all the activities. Firefighters from Canyon Lake Fire Station #60 will be visiting the first day of the program on Monday, June 19, at 10:30 a.m. In addition, the Hometown Buffet will be at the library greeting each new sign-up with special prizes, such as book bags and reading logs. Children will be asked to take their reading log to the library each week to earn a stamp and a reward each time they check out at least one book. On Friday, June 23, the program will feature “Swazzle Puppetry” at 4 p.m., with BARK, the Robot Dog in attendance. Children who attend will receive stickers and pencils. “Purrfect Pets, a special storytime for kids 3 to 5 years of age, will be held on Friday, June 30 at 11 a.m., when a button and tattoo will be the provided to all who attend. “The Snake Lady” will be on hand at the program held Wednesday, July 5 at 3 p.m., and all children will receive a Sizzler certificate. Karen Rae Kraut will present “I Wanna be a Dog” on Wednesday, July 12 at 4 p.m. This program will feature dog stories, songs, riddles and poems, and children will receive a bendable dog or cat as their weekly prize. “Woofers,” another storytime for the younger set, will be held Friday, July 21, at 11 a.m. Children who attend the Summer Reading Program will receive a Hometown Buffet gift certificate and a reading achievement certificate for successfully completing the program. The Library is located down the hall from City and CLPD offices in City Hall, 31516 Railroad Canyon Rd. Hours are Mondays, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Fridays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The phone number is 244-9181. |
