TIP training begins next week
     Trauma Intervention Programs Inc. (TIP), a non-profit organization, is looking for men and women to be part of a unique team of Crisis Responders, trained to provide emotional and practical support to victims immediately following a tragic event. No experience is necessary.
     TIP volunteers are called to emergency scenes by police, firefighters and hospital ER personnel in Canyon Lake, Lake Elsinore, Menifee, Murrieta, Perris, Temecula, Sun City, Wildomar, and surrounding areas.
     An orientation and training class is scheduled for Wednesday, March 22, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Rancho Springs Medical Center, 25500 Medical Center Drive, Murrieta. The course consists of four weeknights, from 6 to 9 p.m., and two weekends from 9 a.m. to mid-afternoon, with graduation on the last Sunday, April 2, at 6 p.m. For more information or to enroll, call John Beaumont at 698-5976 or 440-3227.

Youth concert
     A youth concert with the theme “Xtreme” will feature the bands Souljourners and Polar State next Saturday, March 25, at 5 p.m., at Canyon Lake Community Church. Special speakers will include riders Brian Deegan, Ronnie Faisst, Nate Adams, Jeremy Stenberg, Andrew Short and Nathan Ramsey.
     Admission is free, plus there will be free food, drawings and door prizes. C28 and Chosen Industries will be giving away clothing. Attendees will have a chance to win bike jerseys signed by the guest riders. This event will be promoted across the Southland on Air1 Radio. Doors open at 4 p.m. For more information, call 244-1877.

Celebrity Golf Tournament
     The Inland Empire Branch Arthritis Foundation Celebrity Golf Tournament will be held Friday, April 21, at the Menifee Lakes Country Club. Tee Sponsors of $150 each are being sought at this time. For more information, contact the Arthritis Foundation at 951-320-1540 or go to arthritis.org.

Win a golf cart
     A drawing for a golf cart will be held April 28, at approximately 7:15 p.m., at the Lodge pool barbecue following the Woman’s Club Fashion Show.
     Drawing tickets are only $5 or five tickets for $20 and are available from Gayle Stroffe at 244-9494, the Golf Pro Shop, Scrapbooks and More, the Lighthouse Restaurant or Prestige Golf. Proceeds will support the Woman’s Club’s many philanthropic activities in the community.

Scholarship Pageant
     Debbie Miller, director for the Miss Canyon Lake Scholarship Pageant wants residents to know this year’s pageant will be held Saturday, August 5, at the Temescal Canyon High School Theater. The Pageant Committee will start taking applications in early May.

Casino bus trip
     The Canyon Lake Lioness Club has planned a bus trip to Pala Casino on Wednesday, March 22, as a club fundraiser. The donation is $15; $5 will be refunded by the casino upon arrival. The bus will leave the Lodge parking lot at 8 a.m. and return from Pala Casino at approximately 2 p.m.
     Those who already have a Pala “Privileges” card, should have this number available when making reservations. All Canyon Lake residents and their guests are welcome to come and enjoy the fun. Call Joanna Spiller at 244-1553 for reservations.

Annual Flower Show
     Elsinore Woman’s Club’s 50th annual Flower Show will be held March 24 and 25 at the clubhouse, 710 W. Graham Ave. The show is free to public viewers and competitors of all ages.
     Rules of Entry: Entries must be at the clubhouse between 8 and 10 a.m. on Friday the 24th. Only one entry in each category per participant. No artificial or dyed flowers. Name of exhibitor must be on the underside of container. Entries will be judged from all sides. Entries must stay at the exhibit until 4 p.m. Saturday. There will be prizes and a drawing. Spring dance
     On Friday, March 31, from 7 to 10 p.m., Dan Damon and Victoria Goodson will kick off a four-month series of music events at the Kay Ceniceros Senior Center in Sun City. Tickets to this “Spring Fling” are $6 at the door. For more information, call 672-9673.

CLLL golf tournament
     The Canyon Lake Little League’s 2006 Annual Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, April 8, at the Canyon Lake Golf Course. The day will begin with a putting competition from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.; tournament play begins at noon with a shotgun start. Prizes will be awarded for Longest Home Run Drive, Closest to the Pin and others.
     Cost of the tournament is $95 per single player or $350 for four, prepaid. Hole sponsorships can be purchased for $50 per hole – hole sponsors save on greens fees! A sack lunch and treats will be provided to each registered player at check-in, and be sure to stay after the tournament for the banquet and awards presentation, complete with drawing prizes.

Passover dinner
     Temple Lake Shalom invites Canyon Lakers of the Jewish faith to join them Wednesday, April 12, at 6 pm. for a Kosher Passover celebration and dinner hosted by the Rahmanan family. Temple Lake Shalom is a family-oriented independent Synagogue with no building fund or initiation fees. Friday night services are held every other week, followed by Shabbat dinner with challah and wine – those interested in sponsoring a Friday night service or dinner are encouraged to contact Temple Lake Shalom. Bingo
     The Canyon Lake Lions and Lioness Clubs host Bingo the first and third Sundays of each month at 2 p.m. in the Multi-purpose Room at City Hall. The next session is scheduled for March 19. All proceeds from bingo benefit charities such as the Loma Linda Lions Eye Foundation, Guide Dogs of the Desert, Canine Companions, Lion’s Hope (AIDS) and others. Mainstream outing
     Mainstream, the Canyon Lake Community Church group for adults age 55 and over, will visit the Huntington Library and Gardens in San Marino on Wednesday, March 29. The library features 15 botanical gardens and art gallery as well as the 150-acre estate that includes the original home of Henry Huntington.
     Cost of the outing is $11 to cover library admission and those attending should meet in the Chapel parking lot at 9 a.m. to carpool to the event, which will start with lunch at the North Woods Inn. Seeking vendors
     The Jr. Women’s Club is planning many fun-filled activities for children of all ages at the Easter Carnival at Holiday Harbor on Saturday, April 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Along with activities for children, they would like to include something for the adults and are seeking vendors. Used books and bake sale
     The Menifee Valley Medical Center Auxiliary will hold a used book and bake sale to raise money for Auxiliary projects on Thursday, April 6, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday, April 7, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Menifee Valley Medical Center Lobby, located at 28400 McCall Blvd., Sun City.

League of Women Voters
     In time for the June 2006 Primary Election, residents are invited to a League of Women Voters workshop on outreach, Saturday, March 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at March Field Air Museum Theatre, 22550 Van Buren Boulevard, Riverside, CA 92518. Free parking and lunch is included.

Flag football sign-ups
     The Southwest Family YMCA is taking sign-ups for its summer flag football season. Games are played on Saturdays in the Murrieta area, and will run from June 17 to August 19. The league is open to boys and girls in kindergarten through 8th grade, based on their grade in fall, 2006. Players are grouped by school and local area.
     The registration fee is $110 and includes a jersey and trophy. Financial assistance is available to families who qualify. Volunteer coaches are needed. Chamber cruise
     The 14th Annual Chamber Cruise sponsored by Canyon Lake Travel has been scheduled for October 18. The five-day Mexico cruise aboard Royal Caribbean’s Serenade Of The Seas will depart from San Diego, with ports of call in Ensenada and Cabo San Lucas.Passengers can take advantage of the ship’s onboard entertainment and dining, spa and health club and other activities while at sea.

Call to artists
     It’s time to start preparing for the annual Artists Studio Tour on April 29 and 30. “The community is chomping at the bit so we hope you have been creating lots of new work this past year,” says organizer Christy Bruce.
     Because of the many requests of both artists and visitors, this year’s Studio Tour will once again be held on two days with the option to exhibit one day or both days. On Saturday, historically the busiest, the tour will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Sunday, it will be held from noon to 4 p.m.

Seeking Easter basket donations
     Cornerstone Community Church is preparing over 300 Easter baskets to be given to needy children in Lake Elsinore on April 8 and 9.
     Items may include candies, baskets, Easter grass, ribbons, stuffed toys, color books, small games and crafts for children of all ages. Deadline for donation drop off is April 1. For drop-off location or more information on the event, please contact Nancy at 951-304-9212.

Spiritual advisor
     Church of Today will have a special appearance by Reverend Leo Booth on Sunday, March 29. A renowned spiritual advisor, Reverend Booth has appeared on national shows such as Oprah, Good Morning America, Sally Jesse Raphael and others to deliver his message.
     Rev. Booth will deliver the 10 a.m. service before leading an afternoon workshop on “10 Top Insights Into Creative Living” from 1 to 4 p.m. The workshop is free, however offerings are suggested. Church of Today is located at 16805 Murrieta Road in Sun City.

Dance classes
     The Lake Elsinore Elks Lodge is hosting a series of ballroom and country-western dance classes for Elks and their guests. The classes are taught by Les and Lorrie Staten and take place on Wednesdays at 4 p.m. through May 31. Classes are for partners only and cost is $8 per couple.

Children's Fair
     The annual Lake Elsinore Children’s Fair and Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled for Saturday, April 15, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at McVicker Park. Booth spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis for businesses or individuals who have a service, program or product to highlight for this family event. Booth fees for non-profit organizations are $10 each for a 10-foot by 10-foot space. Commercial sales and food booths are $25 each for a 10-foot by 10-foot space. Each non-profit booth must also provide a children’s activity – finger painting, games, face painting, etc. – and limited electricity is available. 5th Annual Prayer Breakfast
     Canyon Lake families are invited to the 5th Annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast in Lake Elsinore. Part of the national network of communities throughout the country that hosts an annual prayer breakfast where citizens gather to pray for their communities, the state and national leadership and for personal needs, the event will be held this year on Thursday, April 6, from 8 to 11 a.m. at Lakeside High School’s cafeteria during the spring break holiday.
     To participate the cost of a single ticket is $20 but a table of seven costs $100. The emcee for the event is Jack Warford, pastor at Aletheia Community Church in Wildomar. Other area ministers will be part of the ceremony.
     Keynote speaker for this event will be Ron Hafer, a graduate of Biola University with a degree in Biblical Studies who is completing 38 years as the university chaplain. Ron will be talking about his spiritual adventures that includes a miraculous cure from Hodgkin’s disease.
     There also will be messages from elected officials from the state and national levels, as well as music. Having the event at Lakeside School this year will utilize the new culinary arts program at the school.

Community Outreach Ministry
     A non-profit organization, the Community Outreach Ministry in Wildomar assists needy individuals and families through emergency resources and referrals as well as providing free summer camp scholarships for needy children and training at-risk youth in creative arts. ‘Evita’ at Welk Resort Theatre
     The Welk Resort Theatre presents “Evita” through April 2, 2006. Winner of seven Tony Awards, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s “Evita” is the epic story of the life of Eva Peron, wife of former Argentine dictator, Juan Peron.
     The charismatic Eva rises from poverty to climb the ladder of success, first as a model, then an actress, and finally as the wife of General Peron to become the most powerful woman in South America. Told entirely through song and dance, the musical’s highlight is the internationally acclaimed song, “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina.”
     Ticket prices are as follows: Matinee performance only is $37, with buffet is $53; evening performance is $40, with buffet is $58. Matinees are available Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, with the luncheon buffet running from 11:15 a.m. to 12: 30 p.m., and theater seating beginning at 1:30 p.m.

     The U.S. Commission for Scholastic Assistance wants to make parents and students aware that a variety of scholarships are available every year through private sector financial aid. These scholarships often go unused because parents and students don’t know what is available. A list of more than 1000 private sector scholarship opportunities has been compiled by the U.S. Commission of Scholastic Assistance, providing information on scholarship names, addresses, application deadlines, summaries of the scholarships and amounts available. Child safety kits
     The Canyon Lake Police Department and Fire Station #60 are passing out Polly Klaas Foundation child safety kits to families in the community. “You only need to drop by the CLPD or the Fire Station for your free kit and, if you would like, the police will be happy to fingerprint your children,” says Tatiana Ziska, who has been instrumental in making the kits available to residents through her Bronze Award project with Girl Scouts.
     “I hope everybody will take advantage of these free kits and make sure every child in Canyon Lake will be fingerprinted and ID documented and safe for the rest of his or her life. The kits will be available through the month of December,” says Tatiana.

Seeking Tiger Cubs
     Canyon Lake Pack 346 is looking for 1st graders to join their High Adventure Tiger Cub den. Canyon Lake resident and Eagle Scout Tim Janes will lead this year’s high intensity scouting program that will feature such activities as canoeing, sailing, hiking, camping, fishing, golfing, water-skiing, archery and much more. Preschool story time
     A preschool story time is held at the Canyon Lake Library on Fridays at 11 a.m. A short craft time is held after the story reading.
     The Canyon Lake Library can be reached at 244-9181 and is open Mondays 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesdays and Fridays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Hospital volunteers needed

Mom’s group in Canyon Lake
     The organization MOPS (Mothers of Pre-schoolers) is for moms with children ages newborn to five years old. They meet on the first and third Tuesday of the month, from 9 to 11:30 a.m., at Canyon Lake Community Church. Enjoy breakfast with other moms, participate in fun crafts and listen to speakers. A group for mothers
     The MOMS Club invites all mothers to join their local chapter in Lake Elsinore/Wildomar. The MOMS Club is a national non-profit support group for mothers. Organizers plan a wide range of activities including monthly meetings, park play days, special outings, age-specific playgroups and arts and crafts, to name a few. Childcare at CLMS
     Southwest Family YMCAs childcare and enrichment program is available at Canyon Lake Middle School to serve children attending the middle school and Cottonwood Elementary School. Hours of operation are from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. to provide before and after school care for kindergarten through 8th graders. Activities will include homework time, organized games, arts and crafts, sports and computer time. Financial assistance is available to qualifying families. Runners wanted
     San Diego Running Club has started a Temecula Valley chapter. A couple of Canyon Lake and Canyon Hills residents have joined the group and invite anyone who is an experienced runner or who wants to be a runner to join them for Saturday morning runs. The club provides all types of training. “If you want to run your first 5K or if you are training for your 10th marathon we have place for you,” says Greg Dale.
