Seniors add weekly activities Activities committee According to Activities Manager Kathie Barnes, a committee will meet on Wednesday, January 26, for people who would like to offer ideas or organize a group at the Senior Center. The meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. Gardening group On Wednesday, January 26, at 10 a.m. the newly formed gardening group will meet at the Senior Center. Anyone interested in gardening is invited to attend. Members will be discussing the landscaping of the Senior Center. Canasta There is now a group of seniors who meet each Tuesday at noon at the Senior Center to play Canasta. Anyone who is interested or who has questions is invited to call Yvonne Northrup at 244-2171. Senior Center van Those who are unable to get to the Center on their own but who would like to attend any of the activities can now get a ride. Van service is available but rides must be arranged 24 hours in advance. Just call Activities Manager Kathie Barnes at 246-1761. Dancercize Dancercize, the low-impact exercise class, is be meeting at the Senior Center on Thursdays from 9:30 to 11 a.m. The class involves easy stretching exercises starting with upper body, then floor exercises and finally a half hour of line dancing. The four instructors who take turns conducting the class include Darryl Schwarz, B.J. Simpson, Serita Moore and Margene Ziff. There is no charge for the class, and all that is needed is a floor mat. Volunteers needed Anyone who would like to serve as a host or hostess at the Senior Center is invited to contact Kathie Barnes at 244-6841, ext. 610. Coffee Klatch Canyon Lake seniors are invited to drop by the Senior Center each Thursday between 10 a.m. and noon to enjoy a coffee klatch. Coffee and cookies will be available as well as fellowship with others. Weekly activities Canyon Lake’s senior citizens are enjoying their regular weekly activities and some special events as well. On Mondays at 9 a.m. a needlecraft class is held, while on Tuesdays, card players meet at noon. Thursdays find the woodcarvers meeting at 2 p.m., and card players get together again on Fridays at 6 p.m. Potluck and Politics Canyon Lakers who do not have cable television but who would like to watch the POA's televised meetings are invited to attend 'Potluck and Politics' on Tuesday, February 15, when seniors are asked to bring a dish to share and watch the proceedings on the big-screen TV. The potluck starts at 5 p.m. and the meeting at 7. Bereavement support group Ramona Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice, a leader in home health and hospice care for Southwest Riverside County, has introduced a new bereavement support group to serve the residents of Canyon Lake. The group provides a safe and supportive environment to verbalize feelings associated with an impending or recent loss. The group offers information about the mourning process, emotional and spiritual support and the chance to share one’s experiences with others who are coping with a loss. Marti Warnow, a medical social worker, facilitates the support program. Meetings are free and are held from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at the Senior Center.
