POA Notes

Street sweeping
Canyon Lake residents are reminded that the street sweeper will be in the community next week. The company that clears the gutters of dirt and debris is contracted to perform the job just twice a month, so it is important that people not park their vehicles in the street on those days. The map here shows just when the sweeper will in your area. Please advise those in your households–as well as your guests–not to block the roads when the sweeper is expected.

Marine Patrol boat
The POA has encountered some difficulty mounting the lighting system for the new patrol boat. The Association is in the process of having a custom mount made and anticipates having the new boat ready for service next month.

Acoustics study
The Long Range Planning Committee has once again met with the engineer to discuss the acoustics at the dining room at The Lighthouse. After receiving recommendations, the information will be taken to the Board.

Dog park
Webb Associates is presenting plans to the POA for a dog park, which will be located at East Port. Despite the fact that the park also will be the location of the dredging equipment, the dog park will be a fenced area near the basketball courts and the snack bar, while the dredging area will be below the basketball courts.
Concerns about run-off from a dog park into the lake have been alleviated since waste would be cleaned up daily – which is often more than can be said about many private waterfront properties.

Patio cover
The long-awaited plans for the patio cover at the Country Club are not yet complete. However, an update will be presented to the Board as soon as they are ready.

Vandalism
During the month of December, there were three major incidents of vandalism - because of a street spill and damage to irrigation and windows. These cost $560 to repair. Also last month, there were 15 cases of minor vandalism, including damage to street signs, perimeter fencing and light fixtures. These cost $1,425 to repair. In addition, there were 16 incidents of graffiti, which cost $1,210 to clean up. This total of $3,195 compares to a total cost of $2,820 in November.

New budget
The draft budget has been completed by staff and is now in the review process with the Finance Committee. At the completion of the review and modifications to the final version, the budget will be ready for Board approval in February.

During the month of December, the breakdown of CC&R violations was as follows:
     Landscaping 116
     Improper storage 50
     House numbers on curb 24

POA statistics
During December, the Operations Department set up approximately 257 functions, serving about 17,438 people.
The Member Services Department issued seven fishing permits in December as well as 33 garage sale permits. The department also opened 31 new escrows and closed 35. In addition, clerks issued 315 new photo identification cards.
There was an average of 12 campers per night during the month of November and 16 per night during December.
As for The Lighthouse, the restaurant hosted 27 club meetings and 12 catered events serving approximately 987 people in November. The next month, the facility held 31 club meetings and 24 catered events serving about 2,439 people.

Yoga
Canyon Lakers are reminded that yoga classes are held each Monday morning at 9 in the City Multi-purpose Room.
Taught by Paul Blake, the sessions are $5 each. This fee should be paid directly to Paul.

Volunteers wanted
Volunteers are still needed to take part in the Cormorant eradication program. Anyone who would like to take part in this program, which involves operating equipment that emits loud booms and whistling sounds to keep the big birds from roosting, is asked to contact the Operations Department at 244-6841, ext. 510.

Planning a party?
Canyon Lakers celebrating a special event—from a birthday or anniversary party to a wedding or baby shower, are invited to contact Country Club Manager Loretta Dudziak, who says she’s ready to help residents plan those festive events. Call her at 244-6841, Est. 723.

Special events
Having a wedding reception? A family get-together? An anniversary party? Don’t forget that a typed or printed guest list of names, in alphabetical order, must be turned into the POA if you’re expecting more than six people.
According to Member Services Manager Ramona Burrascano, many property owners are faxing their guest lists to her department—and that’s fine, she says. However, some are waiting until an hour before guests are expected to do so, and that's not fine!
Lists should be submitted at least 24 hours in advance, she reminds residents. Once received, the lists must be input into the computer and forwarded to the gates. Faxing or taking in lists at least a day in ahead of time will take pressure off the clerks and will keep guests from being inconvenienced at the gates.

Appealing?
Those waiting to appear before the Appeals Committee are reminded that they will be notified by mail as to the date they are to attend their hearing. Some people have been showing up at committee meetings not realizing that their cases will not be heard until they receive a notice in the mail, according to Ramona Burrascano, manager of the Member Services
In addition, to be heard by the Appeals Committee, the prime member or another person on the property’s title must appear. If a guest or renter wants to appear, he or she may do so, but must be accompanied by the property owner as well.

Spelling, please
Canyon Lakers are asked to be prepared to spell the last and first names of their guests when they call them in to the POA. According to Member Services Manager Ramona Burrascano, even if a person’s name is one letter off, it could mean he or she will not come up on the computer at the gate.
Residents will be asked to spell out even the simplest names. Correctly spelled names will mean much smoother entry at the gates.

You're responsible!
Canyon Lakers are reminded that they are responsible for their family members and guests when they are called into the community. According to access control rule 3.205, “the prime member is responsible for the actions of his/her family, guests, renters and lessees and for any charges, fines or other liabilities incurred by them.”

Pass codes
Those who would like to change their pass codes for any reason may do so, according to Member Services Manager Ramona Burrascano. The only requirement is that the person dropping by the office to make the request must be on the title to the property, she says.
     Member Services hours
The Member Services Counter is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the weekends. Weekday hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

POA website
There are many interesting features at www.canyonlakepoa.com. Those who want to visit must be members of the Association. They will be asked to set up a user’s name and pass word and there is a 24-hour turn-around to log in the first time. (Longer if logging in over the weekend.)
Once online, members can not only receive documents, forms and other POA information, but they also can post garage sale information, share hobby information and find out more about their neighbors.
Clubs that have websites are invited to link them to the new POA site.
The Member Services Department continues to add more information to the site, according to Ramona Burrascano, manager.

Fishing permits
The Member Services Department has made it easier for guests of residents to get fishing permits in Canyon Lake. According to Ramona Radu, manager of the department, as long as a guest has a copy of his or her California fishing license on file with the POA, the prime or associate member can pick up the permit in advance of the guest’s arrival.

Feedback hotline
In an effort to provide better service to the membership of Canyon Lake, as well as to monitor the level of service provided by various departments within the Association-POA management has instituted a quality assurance program.
Among the areas to be monitored are phone etiquette, guest call-ins, general information requests, membership service, member counter operations, accounting inquiries, correspondence follow up, facilities inspections, phone administration, dining experience, food quality and special events.
A hotline has been established so Canyon Lakers can call with their concerns or comments in these various areas. Callers should dial 244-6841, Ext. 800, to leave their names, phone numbers and tract and lot numbers. Calls will be returned in a timely manner.

ACH program
Canyon Lakers are reminded that they can sign up for an automatic monthly withdrawal program to pay their assessments. Just drop by the Administration Office and sign up.

Marine Patrol
The Canyon Lake Marine Patrol office is manned seven days a week intermittently throughout the day. If the need for assistance arises and residents are unable to speak with a Marine Patrol officer at the regular phone number, please contact the Community Patrol dispatcher at 246-1741. The dispatcher is in radio communications with Marine Patrol at all times.

Open house
Property owners have the opportunity to meet with General Manager Clint Warrell, Controller Ron Phipps, Bartons Account Manager Vince Schiavi and Operations Manager Paul Johnson, who all hold open houses in their respective offices on Wednesdays from 2 to 4 p.m. Property owners who want to stop by the Administrative Office in the Towne Center with comments, suggestions or complaints for Clint, Vince or Ron are welcomed to do so. Paul holds his open house at his office in the Operations Department near the North Gate.
