Club News Yacht Club The Canyon Lake Yacht Club will hold its first meeting of the new year on Thursday, January 27, in the Pool View Room of the Lodge. The meeting will get under way at 6 p.m. with dinner to follow. Installation of officers for 2005 will be held, and the group will discuss plans for a progressive dinner party in the Spring and a Fall lake cruise. For reservations, please call Judy Weaver at 244-6138 or Pat Batton at 246-4201 Art Association The Canyon Lake Art Association invites all art lovers to attend a demonstration in the City Multi-purpose Room on February 3 at 7 p.m. featuring master airbrush artist Terry Storzieri. Terry has been airbrushing for over 10 years and produces life-like portraits of wildlife through mastering the art of glazing colors. The demonstration is free and refreshments will be served. Genealogical Society The next meeting of the Lake Elsinore Genealogical Society will be January 26 at the Mission Trail Community Library at 34303 Mission Trail between Bundy Canyon and Paloma. An introductory workshop on writing an autobiography will be conducted by Shirley Brooks, and there will be additional opportunities in following weeks for additional classes. Choraleers The Canyon Lake Choraleers recently performed their Christmas program to great audiences and look forward to practicing their spring program with music from such Broadway plays as “Camelot,” “Oklahoma,” “Evita” and more. The group's membership consists of people from Canyon Lake, Lake Elsinore, Menifee, Murrieta, Sun City and Wildomar. New membership is open through February 8. There is no audition required, just the love of singing. Membership for this season will be $25. Rehearsals are at the City Multi-purpose Room on Tuesdays, from 7 to 9 p.m. The Choraleers will be available for performances by May 1. For more information, call Jonnie Rice at 244-0234. Women's Golf Club The women's mini-guest tournament, All That Jazz, will be held on January 25. There will be a continental breakfast at 7 a.m., followed by an 8 a.m. shotgun start. The format is Best Ball of Partners. The price is $20 for members and WSCGA guests, $45 for all others. Sign up by February 1 for the Women's Valentine Tournament to be held on February 8. It is a foursome event, and the price is $23. The club will hold its annual President’s Cup Tournament on February 28, March 1, 7, 8. To be eligible to compete in the President’s Cup, a member must have entered and posted a minimum of six scores in the past six months in a Canyon Lake ladies’ play day competition on Tuesday or Saturday. The overall winner and the winners in each flight will be determined by four days stroke play, all flights net, the number of flights being determined by the number of entrants. The President's Cup winner and the winners in each flight will receive medallions or diamonds; other prizes will be awarded to the second and third place flight winners. An award’s luncheon will be held at the Country Club following play on Tuesday, March 8. The entry fee of $25 and sign-up deadline is Tuesday, February 15. Neil’s Diamond beginning round dance classes, also known as cued ballroom dancing, are held each Monday at the Lodge from 12:30 to 2 p.m. The first class is free, then $4 per person per session. Tuesday Work Group The Tuesday Work Group (TWG) is a group of men who volunteer their time to work on community projects, primarily on the Golf Course. They work each Tuesday morning from 6:30 to 11:30 a.m. They currently have a membership of 60-plus and normal attendance is around 45. Anyone who would like to join this group and help out is welcome to join them on the Golf Course any Tuesday between October and June, excluding holidays. Lions Club Please reserve Thursday, March 10, for the 15th annual Charity Golf Tournament, run by the Canyon Lake Lions Club at the Canyon Lake Country Club. The tournament will be open to the first 144 players who register. Choo Choos Choo Choo members are invited to meet in the Towne Center Conference Room to play dominoes on the second Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Anyone interested in learning how to play Mexican Train Dominoes is invited to attend. Pinochle Club Every Thursday evening, from 6:45 to 10, tables of four meet at the Towne Center Conference Room to play pinochle. All ages and ability levels are welcome to join this friendly group. Woman's Club Bridge Members and prospective members of the Woman’s Club meet on the second Wednesday of each month to play bridge in the Towne Center Conference Room at 10 a.m. Those who would like to join the fun or who would like more information are invited to contact Nancy Skougard, 244-9968. CLARS The Canyon Lake Amateur Radio Service (CLARS) meets on the third Wednesday of each month at the Canyon Lake Fire Station at 7 p.m. The informal meetings cover topics from becoming a ham with the no-code test, operating the CLARS station, support to the Emergency Preparedness Committee and other programs.
