Police Blotter: CLPD discusses recent statistics

The month of December saw a general decrease in criminal activity for Canyon Lake, with only identity theft and fraud showing an increase. This is not an uncommon trend seen by law enforcement agencies during the holiday season, and reports are expected to taper off over the next couple of months.
A continuing increase of property thefts, both from vehicles as well as boats, has been noted as well over the past several months; residents are reminded to always secure their vehicles and never leave valuables unattended in their vehicles or boats.
The Canyon Lake Police Department is currently working closely with the Perris Police/Sheriff station to ensure registered sex offenders in the community are complying with the terms of their probation.
As a result, one Canyon Lake resident was arrested for being in violation of 290 PC-Sex Offender registration, as well as weapons violations and possession of controlled substances.
Two traffic collisions of note were responded to by the Canyon Lake Police Department in December, with one of the two accidents, a hit and run, taking place inside the gates on Canyon Lake Drive North. The at-fault driver, a non-resident, was later identified and indicated that ice on the windshield had obscured the view, thus resulting in the three-vehicle chain-reaction collision. The District Attorney’s Office is currently reviewing the report.
The second accident occurred on Railroad Canyon Road and involved three vehicles as well. The collision was determined to be the result of unsafe speed, with a Canyon Lake resident identified as being at fault.
Extra patrol units were on-hand throughout the New Year’s weekend to monitor bars, parties and to discourage drunk driving. One arrest was made for public intoxication and one party was shut down by police. There were no drunken driving arrests made over the weekend.
One final note from the Canyon Lake Police Department – residents are reminded to report all crimes to their department for response and follow-up. Although the department is working closely with Community Patrol to coordinate efforts, the department can more effectively respond to calls made directly to them. Emergencies should be called in to 9-1-1 and any non-emergency calls can be made to 1-800-950-2444.
